I think I'm allergic to cats that shed, like Calicos, and I was wondering if anyone knows what kind is best.

First of all, here's a few tidbits you might want to remember.
1. All cats shed. Every single one of them no matter which cat. Even "hairless" cats have some hair, just very little.
2. All domestic cats are the same species, but different breeds. For example, Manx, Siamese, Maine Coon, etc, are all different breeds, but of the same species, Felis catus or more currently named Felis silvestris catus.
3. Calico is a color of cat, not a breed. Calicos are orange, black and white and can be of many different breeds.

For people that are allergic to cats, sometimes hairless cats like the Sphynx can help with allergies, but it depends on exactly what you are allergic to from the cat. Supposedly scientists have developed a hypoallergenic breed of cat, but you had better be ready to fork over the big bucks if you want one. Look at the ASPCA website for more info on living with cat allergies.

There is only one species of cat: felis sylvestris something. Calico is a coat coloring and occurs in most breeds of cats. It is just a genetic roll of the dice.

All cats and humans "shed". It is the dander on the cat that causes allergies for humans. Many cat owners find that over time the allergic reactions are reduced as they live with their cat. A hairless cat breed, like the Sphinx, will not solve the problem as it is the dander from the cat's body that causes the problem and all cats will have that.

you can go to the doctor to find out if you are allergic to cats at all. for years and years i thought i was allergic to cats, which broke my heart cause i love cats. through my own conclusions, i ended up being allergic to mold and not cats. now i have 3 (including a long haired maine coon who sheds like there is no tomorrow) and am allergy free!

If you're allergic to cats that shed then get one of those cats without hair. They're called a sphynx. I have 3 of them and they're really good cats if you treat them good.

What do you mean by "allergic to cats that shed"? People who are allergic to cats are allergic to their dander....hairless cats have dander, too.

And ALL cats with hair shed.

People who are alergic to cats, are usually alergic to the dried saliva that flakes off of them when they clean their fur. If you give them a bath every 2 weeks or more, you may not even notice the alergy. Of course, you might be scratched to death...
