I'm a Sr. and I'm 17 yrs old. I have the opportunity to go to college and not have to pay for anything. The catch is i would have to join the army I would not be at the front line i would be working as a nurse or a doctor and i only have to serve two to four years. My parents don't think it's a good idea but they are already paying for my other two sisters for college. I plan to become a doctor which is a lot of college and a lot of money. should i join the military even if my parents don't want me to or should i listen and not joinl?

.First, let me say that I am a veteran,so my answer is biased. It is probably a year before you would enlist. You have your whole senior year to go.DON'T LISTEN TO THE RECRUITER.These people are bigger LIARS than any car salesman you will ever meet.Do your research.Talk to a guidance counselor thats not an anti military whacko. There are several different ways you can get uncle sam to pay for your schooling. The recruiters will want you to enlist, and when your hitch is up,the GOV'MT will match the amount you saved toward your college tuition. If you were my son or daughter, I would recomend ROTC.That way,you are in school right out of high school, and the Gov't pays for your whole 4 years.(4 years will get you an RN degree, but not a doctorate)When you graduate you will owe the military 4 years. But the good news is you will get a commission-You will be an officer. They have different programs,so check it out and educate yourself. It is your decision.Good Luck!

I think you should just follow your heart and your dream. Your parents aren't always going to be there for you and you need to make your own decisions. Whatever you decide, your parents will still love you. Just keep in mind that college costs a lot. The army is willing to give you a free ride. But on the other hand your going to be away from home and your family. Your also risking your life but for a good reason, your country.

I think regaurdless of what they say you should do what is going to make you happiest. I loved the military. But dont make your first enlistment longer than 3 years. You can always re-enlist. No parent really wants their child to join the miliatry especially a daughter.

You need to be sure that you can handle the stress of being in the military first...

However, if you do train in the forces, you will see a side of healthcare that the civilians don't, which could be of help when you become a doctor.

Good luck!

Why don't your parents support the idea?
