I was at the beach this morning, and as I parked my car I saw the funniest thing ever. There was a big, strong, proud male cat sitting on his perch and majestically watching over his domain. He was an orange long-hair.with a beautiful, healthy gate. The funny part was, his owner had shaved him (perfectly I might add) to look EXACTLY like a lion. He had taken the clippers to everything but what was now his mane and perfect tufts of hair at the end of his tail and four paws. It was maybe the coolest thing I'd ever seen. I thought it was funny cuz the cat was still kickin a s s and takin names... only he was a lion now. So I wanted to know what you wonderful people think, is that cool... or cruel?

I live in Newport Beach where the homes are on the beach. He was on the porch of the home. And yeah, it's hot so it does make sense.

Lol, well, it's definitely cute. Sometimes, with longhaired cats, the owners have to shave them to get rid of matting and stuff. It's hard not to be just a little embarrassed for the kitty though...;-)

Some people do this for their long-haired cats to help them with the summer heat.

It does sound really cool. What was an owned cat doing at the beach? Certainly if such a cat spends time in the sun he should not have his hair shaved. Skin cancer is a real possibility.

It is cool that the cat's self esteem wasn't affected. I had a LONG haired cat that had hairballs so bad I had him shaved. The groomer said that it was better to leave some hair (the lion cut) because it makes them feel better.

My cat was so embarrassed that he hid from everybody for a week, and he was usually the social one.

I wonder if the other cats made fun of him when I wasn't around???

I swore to NEVER do that to him again.

As long as the shaved hair is not too short and the cat is not left out in the sun too long, it's not cruel. Cats and dogs can get sunburned if they're shaved too short. And the cat and his owner probably enjoy the attention, so I'd say it's cool...

I agree with both. That would look pretty cool. But it's also cruel..because if house cats were suppose to look like lions and be groomed like lions..god would've just made them that way. Their hair is like that for a purpose.

I think its cool because to have a miniature lion is awesome. Think of it this way the cat is probably thanking his lucky stars for the air conditioning treatment. ha ha!

As long as the cat wasn't uncomfortable with it, I think it's fine. My dog groomer's children experimented with their cat. It never gave them a problem, just walked around sporting it's ever-changing hair do.

Hey, you know what? Have you ever looked at some of the absolutley ridiculous haircuts some people give to their dogs?
Really in my oppinion, if the cat doesn't seem bothered or degraded by it then, hey...why not.

perhaps no longer cruel yet truthfully pointless and superficial. babies are no longer customizable dolls, and there are different how you are able to distinguish toddler females from toddler boys - inclusive of putting female clothing on them. there replaced right into somewhat female (13-sixteen months in all probability) getting her ears pierced on the mall; she replaced into screaming and crying, and the mummy yelled "provide up, there is not any longer something to scream or cry approximately." heavily?
