Because god is imaginary. You are simply delusional.

Well, first off I just don't believe in God so I don't believe I'm ignoring his gift. There is no scientific proof of a God, and I prefer to believe in things that I can prove. I'm not going to waste my life believing in a God just so I can avoid the theoretical possibility of going to hell. I prefer to make my own decisions without having to worry about what a mythical God would have me do.
That's just my opinion, anyway.

We don't 'ignore' anyones gift. We simply understand that there is not gift, and that doesn't frighten us nor does it make us believe what is unbelievable. Here's a question for YOU: Would you rather believe a lie and be deluded into thinking you're going to heaven, or know the TRUTH even if the truth was that there is no afterlife?

"What if you're wrong? Why take the chance?" These are questions thrown at us every day. Let me ask you the same question posed a bit differently.
What if the ancient Egyptians were right? What if you find yourself, after death, standing in a great hall before a tribunal of Egyptian gods, and jackal-headed Anubis rips your heart from your body, tosses it upon a pair of scales, weighing it against a feather. How will you answer when he asks why you never sacrificed to the gods of Egypt? Did you not care what would happen to your soul after death?!
There's exactly the same probability of this happening as appearing before the pearly gates to be judged. Shouldn't you make regular sacrifices to all of the gods--you know, just in case Christianity is wrong?
We're as worried about going to hell as you are of being reincarnated as a banana.

There is no higher being, no life after death, no hell or heaven. Live a tolerant life, embrace the here and now, and hope for a painless death.
If this seems bleak, it is not. When living things die, our remains slowly turn to dust, and are reabsorbed into the earth...think of this as a kind of immortality.

What gift? If you are not fortunate enough to own or have knowledge to read a bible then you are going to hell? All christian faith keepers, the shroud, the arc, everything have proven to be false. We are not to be concerned with what happened beyond 14,000 years ago? Why? What about the discredited cro-magnum man or neanderthal? Where are they in the bible? Thy just found a 3.3 million year old skeleton with ape like features and human DNA and I am not supposed to believe in evolution? I will live my life and procreate. Procreation drives all living things, period. I will try to learn as much as I can to ensuring the existence of my line. I have no devine voice in head telling me how to live my life and I am happy. Everybody struggles and if you are not smart enough or strong enough to guide yourself, then I suggest religion but when it is forced on my then I detest it, it is human nature. People just live happy, if you make a mistake learn from it. We are all going to die one day and it is the only sure thing in life. Do what you need to do to be happy.

Thanks for throwing pascals wager around again. There is no empirical evidence either for the existence of a deity or deities nor against their existence. Only death contains the final answer and I am very content to wait until that day.

What gift? Jesus was killed for being politically inconvienent. He did not take any sins upon himself by some kind of sympathetic magic. He was simply a martyr for his cause...and his followered deified him for it. It wasn't until after the Bible was formalized that it was decided that Jesus was even Divine at all...many decades well after his death.

Isn't it better to be true to yourself than to lie to yourself and believe "just in case?" If there is a god, wouldn't he/she/it be angry at the "I'll just believe in case there is a hell, not because I really care about god" people? I cannot make myself believe, so I just don't. That's it.
