finding heritage based on last name?

Question

I found out that most people with my last name are from Sweden or the netherlands... but that doesnt mean my heritage is of that descent does it? i would really like to know and i dont have any direct family anymore that can tell me... its just frustrating when everyone knows that theres is and i dont. so can i just assume thats correct, or is there better search abilities on the internet, that dont cost money to use?

NO, I AM NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN AND MY LAST NAME IS IRISH. N.A.I. DID NOT GO BY LAST NAMES, WHEN THE SOLDIERS CAME THRU WE ADOPTED NAMES FROM THEM.
