I have been getting a long of Charlie Horses in my legs. I looked it up on the net and a few places said to stop eating banannas, because I had to much potasium. I did and they stopped. When I told people this they said that made not sense because they always hear the cramps were from not enough potasium and that you are supposed to eat bannanas to stop the cramps. I started eating bannanas and got cramps again. Has anyone ever heard that EATING bannanas will cause charlie horses? I LOVE bannanas and I hate not being able to eat them and I would like to know why I cant. :(

Actually, I heard that eating bananas are good for charlie horses.
However my dad used to get them quite frequently in the middle of the night till he started taking a vitamin E supplement at which point he never got another one.

I have always heard that you get cramps from lack of potassium, but it does make sense that too much can cause them as well. My sister's doctor told her that electrolytes can help with charlie horses. I get them almost every day. I started drinking some gatorade and it seems to help. I also exercise a lot more often. You should probably talk to your doctor, since there may be a bigger problem than you are aware of. Good luck!

both the information on the net and your friends are correct. while NOT getting enough potassium can cause cramps, so can getting too much. Your body is runs a somewhat fine chemical balancing act to get everything to work correctly.
You can still eat your bananas, just don't eat them every day. Have one every few days instead.
