No, how many other people dont even wash their hands before leaving the restroom. How gross, public health recomends that to wash your hands you turn on the water, then roll out tissue, wash your hands with soap, then use the tissue to turn offf the water, get more of the tissue and then open the door when leaving! You are just practicle and health wise

Well actually there are other common things we use daily that turn out to be MUCH more problematic. The dirtiest thing most normal members of the population (in South Korea, at least, where this study took place) use are shopping cart handles -- with 1,100 colony-forming units of bacteria per 1.55 square inches.
According to Kwon Young-il, an official at The Korea Consumer Protection Board, this is because "the area is larger than the others and people have more space to place their hands."
Hmmm. Next on the list were computer mice in Internet cafes, which had an average of 690 colony-forming units of bacteria in the same area. Bus hand straps came in third, with 380 units, followed by bathroom doorknobs with 340. http://www.poopreport.com/BMnewswire/bathroom_doors.html

By the way, how about your shower? Do you touch the curtain? Better read this following CNN report as well:
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0402/18/lt.05.html
So it's still a good idea to use a tissue. By the way, there is now a special product on the market to help people who don't want to touch the doorknob: http://antimicrobial.indoff.com/Weblog/Archive/2006/8/16/Bathroom_Door_Germs

it depends on the bathroom! if it's a pretty clean establishment then don't go overboard.. remember that your immune system needs to work out just like the rest of your body lol.. but if you think you might get hepatitis or something like that just by looking at the bathroom.. use all the paper you can! you are no more germaphobic than the nation as a whole is right now I'd say.. it's just that different people express it in different ways (hand sanitizer, super extra gotta kill everything hand soap, bleach water on the toilet seats..) so enjoy being normal!

hell no! I do the same thing. I also will not touch door handles when going in and out of restaraunts, gas stations, store or any other public place. I am always glad to see when the door pushes rather than pulls. I also would rather go in the bushes than a rest stop on the highway! OMG I am totally grossing myself out already! You are not the only one.

No, kids go poop and dont wash and they are messy wipers so what do you think is on the handle??? A lot of people dont wash their hands even if they know they dribbled on their hands.
What if you are at a resturant and you touch the bathroom door handle, open the door, and go back to your table to eat finger food? Ok i'm grossed out!!!!

No, because I'm sure there are disgusting pigs out there that wipe and then don't wash their hands. I usually use the paper towel or sometimes I will use the bottom of my shirt. I still don't understand why they don't make the doors where you have to push them and that way you don't have to use the disgusting door handle.

Not at all... in school we were taught how to wash our hands "correctly". My teacher used to make us get the paper towel before we washed our hands-- then wash them and shut the water off using the towel and then open the door and discard the towel. Sounds to me like you are just extra careful.

You're smart! You have no idea who has touched that handle before you. And worse, you have no idea what they touched before they grabbed the handle. Stay smart, assume all public surfaces are covered with germs and act accordingly.

No, you are not a germaphobe. Bathroom doorknobs, etc., are loaded with germs.
