I recently bought my goddaughter a name picture for her first birthday but I think it would make a good christening gift as well. It's her name with a different picture for each letter and a name meaning underneath. I got it from Born Gifted on the internet but several companies seem to do the same thing. I paid around £35 including delivery.

this gift can be for either sex
its a print of the babys hand and feet set in plaster..and framed.
the cost is around 45 pounds upwards...so not cheap
but if ur going to be a godparent then it shows u r responsible and taking ur godchild serious....
the framed gift names and dates the child and at what age it was taken..so when child grows they can then display the print in their own home etc ...
we do these at our hospital , in the maternity dept..so contact ur local one and see if the ward can give u the web address or telephone number.
they really do look splendid.
good luck
hope its a fantastic christening.

How about some kind of savings bond that they can't use until they turn a certain age. It is a way to help them save money while they are young. At least the gift is for the child instead of the parents.

A Holy Family Picture that can be put in Baby's Room.

A baby Scapular, a Holy Rosary&Bible.

A Guardian Angel Lamp.

And a 14Kt.gold medal of a saint with chain(let's say with her Baptism Name on it.

A medal or cross which she could wear on her special day.

This sounds a little strange, a friend gave us a decorated box to hold keepsakes from the sacraments. It now has our son's Baptism candle and certificate. In the future we will put in keepsakes from his first communion etc.

I bought a little silver box lined with velvet for baby's first tooth. Name & date of birth engraved on it.

Make sure that is relatively "religious" - after all, that is the occasion. A framed holy picture; something "angel-ish" for her room would be nice - an ornament, or something decorative and heavenly. (I really like Adoptive Father's idea -)

If you just have a small amount to spend, then you could buy a premium bond in her name.

If you have a lot to spend, then name a park bench celebrating her birth (in London, these are all in public parks, or in places like Kew). Or even a seat in the Royal Festival Hall - £300 for 10 years. http://www.rfh.org.uk/main/transforming/support.asp?subpage=seat

When the child is older you can then take them to 'their' seat - it would be a big thrill!

How about a bottle of Hungarian Tokaj wine? In particular, a 6 puttonyas, which is very sweet and will keep for decades. She can break it open on a special occasion like her 18th/21st birthday or her wedding day.
