Everyone does it for a purpose, to feel good, for good health, to attract the opposite sex (typically after they have divorced or looking for another mate).
My reason would be that it clears my mind of all the stresses, to fit in my clothes and to curb aging.

good question...me and my friend used to have a debate why people went to the gym. For me, it was for health reasons. For him, it was to attract the opposite sex. We were debating in general why people went and it's probably more for health since it does clear your mind and is good for you, and only those interested in looking good need that for the opposite sex. Looking good is just an added bonus of being healthy, in my opinion....

I love this question! I just recently rejoined the YMCA after not going for over a year. My reasons were as follows:
1) Needed something else to do after work because I found myself hitting the bars too often
2) Have started to put back on some of the weight I lost and don't like how my clothes are fitting
3) I love the way I feel after a good workout
4) I hope it will improve my looks and therefore please my man
Thanks for asking!

1) I'm on a diet, and exercise has been key to losing weight.

2) I don't have room for exercise equipment in my apartment. Also, my place isn't set up well for exercising to a video.

3) Sometimes I enjoy the comraderie of my fellow exercisers, especially in a class.

4) I like the variety of machines in a gym, as well as the pool, jacuzzi, and sauna at the gym.

To get away from the house so I can focus on what I need in my workout. I do it for physical fitness and I feel so much better throughout the day when I get a good workout in. It just gives great endorphins that help lift the mood for a day:)

A variety of reasons:

1) At 46, I'm beginning to lose flexibility, stamina, strength, endurance. I notice it a lot when cycling. Building and maintaining upper body strength contributes to overall fitness on the bike.

2) I work at a sedentary desk job (lots of computer and phone work), so it helps maintain my overall energy level and mental alertness.

3) I have two teenage sons. 'Nuff said.

4) I'm married. 'Nuff said.

5) Helps keep the weight down and clothes fitting as they were intended.

I work out at a gym because they have the equipment there that I cannot afford to keep in my home. I exercise because it helps keep me mentally balanced and because I am in the process of losing weight. Also, weight training is important to me to keep my muscle and bone mass up as I get older. Thanks for asking your question.

All good reasons, though another couple--to check out others to compare yourself to, to socialize, and maybe also to pick up guys or girls, whatever your flavor is.
