As a born again christian and a minister of the gospel, I know that the truth doesn't sit well with people....especially non-believers. I have to be very careful to give a truthful, biblical answer to any question that may arise. If I tell someone something that does not line up with scripture, I will be held to a higher standard and judgment by God.
Personal opinions have no place in explaining biblical mandates. Personal opinions must be thrown out the window when dealing with sound, doctrinal proof on such matters as homosexuality, sin, grace, faith...etc....things that are clear in the bible.
However, things that are not so clear....the 3 views on the rapture of the church, who the "all" are that Peter is talking about in 2 Peter chapter 3......things like that can prompt an interjected opinion.

It's getting difficult. I asked a few questions today to see how serious people were on here. Basically, few are here actually seeking. When you ask an intelligent, thought provoking question, opposing viewpoints don't answer. When asked why they are here, many say to incite anger and make themselves feel good (no kidding). I'm left wondering, is it worth being here at all?
Rob Bell gave a great sermon at his church last Sunday. He basically said that the only evidence we truly have to have in defense of our beliefs is the fact that God has changed our lives for the better. I'm liking that. It's actually kind of Biblical. After Jesus cures a blind man the Jewish leaders keep badgering him about who Jesus is. He keeps answering, "I don't know. All I know is that I used to be blind, and now I'm not because of Him."

I have had a few positive responces via email from contacts here. when I reply to what is likely a serious question concerning the God Stuff I always have The Book open. I do post my website and use pages from it in some of my answers. On my site I make available links to an online bible as referance to verses and comments I make.... but I do state my pov, and I hope that I make myself clear when my pov is not exactly as many of my Christian Brothers and sisters may state .
My site is at: http://www.mikesoutreach.com

There is no such thing as unified when speaking of religion and denominations. Every one has a different spin on what was said , what it meant, who it referred to, etc. I think if you have studied enough on your own you should be able to say the answer to questions about religion to the best of your ability and simply state: personal opinion.

Truth can be discerned by a truly inquiring mind. Diversity in the answers doesn't mean no one knows the truth, a person has to weigh the answers, evaluate the source.
People may come by and get steered in the right direction.
Unified response? Get real.

Amen. That's exactly what I've been thinking. It would be awesome to see Christians back up their answers with scripture. There is no better proof than that!
