I'm sorry I can't make any sense of it either! Its a very stupid and ancient rule, that will take time for it to be updated.
Truth of the matter is the Military is obligated to recognize a legal marriage. If the federal goverment allows homosexual unions, the military will have to allow homosexuals in the military and honor their unions. Once the Federal Gov. says it ok to be gay, the military will too. The military will not have a choice, Its called Equal Opportunity.
The reality is its the male soliders are the ones who have the problem with it... not so much the females. I've been in the military and witnessed this first hand. The reality is, men can't stand the fact that they might get unwanted attention from another man, but its ok for a male to give that unwated attention to a woman. (They fluff it up as a complement - when they are still talking about your rack or butt)
Heaven forbid a male soldier experience what a female soldier goes through just about every day in the military.
The military likes to say that they don't allow sexual harrassment, but that is a lie, because it happens any way, if not by lower enlisted then by the SGM who enforces the rules himself. I've lived through it, and seen it first hand, time after time.
So its not that they are homosexual, its that now they have to worry about the unwanted attention. Something females are forced to deal with, What happened to Equal Opportunity.... not in the military.
Men don't want another man checking him out, and thats how a lot of females feel too, but we manage to go about our day and do our job professionally and profiecently. Yeah it bothers us, but we can't do a thing about it, (even when we do report it, nothing happens). If a female soldier bends over to pick up something she dropped, she'll have 6 male looking at you rear! I've been told by a few males that it should be flattering that she's being checked out at all.... but the bottom line is its unwanted attention.
Heaven for bit a male soldier has the table turned on them, and they actually get to know what it feels like.
Unfortunately, there is too much opposition going against homosexual unions and homosexuals in general. So it will be a while before anything is done to allow homosexual union rights and in the military. Sad isn't it.
Pathetic the military will allow criminals, illeterates and people past their prime (no offense to you older active duty people) but will not a perfectly able young, college graduate, with no criminal record, who is profesiant and professional in their job and physical abilites, and only cuz they are gay, they can't serve their country.
Sad, but thats the direction theis country is being dragged, what happened to our wonderful country, human rights, our freedoms. Gone!

you are right, it's a hard question, but I'll give it a shot
for a long time people associate masculine traits to defenders, strong, breadwinners, laborers, etc and feminine traits usually to nurturers, affectionate, intelligence and craftiness.
women for a long time while are not strong make up for it with slyness and appealing to weak spots or just being attractive and what other guys can't do, women get done easily and to men that's a cheap shot, as they could never do it, it's an advantage
if someone is truly 'gay' than being around the other bunch (military is still somewhat segregated in combat arms) or same sex would be like a guy walking into the girl's locker room and they feel uncomfortable, or feel insecure and it puts a new aspect to being a soldier (like the Spartans) or brother in arms.
I feel homosexuals are barred from US military (not worldwide) for same reasons the Arabs bar women from public things and religious events: power, control and authority protection by those currently with it, who happen to detest and want dead those not like themselves, who have unfair advantages of both strength and the sexual aspects that other 'manly' men just can't handle or feel they may not always "just say no"
Read about Hitler and his internal battles with gays, the Gestapo and SS troopers that became about 'butch' gays against the "effemenite" gays. Gayness wasn't intolerated, it was the seeming wimpiness or vulnerable aspects they didn't want projected or accepted, or they hated and acted in intollerance, an old battle of the sexes of male character domination over female characteristics, who gives, and who takes

The Military does NOT enlist criminals -- after all, the Military Service Member IS Responsible for all the equipment they are issued, the lives of their buddies and comrades, and their officers as well -- so anyone with a Criminal Record would NOT qualify for any position of responsibility in any MOS that I know of.
As far as low IQ -- have you not heard of the ASVAB? Again, recruiters will NOT talk to an individual without that HS Diploma in hand -- and as far as Officer Candidates -- the minimum is a Bachelor's Degree.
Your question shows a lot of the common misconceptions about the military that have been around for a long, long time.

Actually, the military does not allow people with outstanding criminal records (i.e. anything other than serving in juvy as a teen) into the service. As for the "why no gays", the military allows gays and lesbians into the services every day, as long as they don't stand around shouting about it. All they want to promote is a sense of unity and comradery, so anyone making a huge fuss about anything is looked down upon. Furthermore, I've known people who have walked up to their COs and claimed that they were gay to try and weanie out of the service, and the COs have all told them as long as their being gay doesn't interfere with their job, they could care less if they're gay, bi, straight or enjoy inter-species relations.

I dont know where you get your info from but thats not true.I know for a fact. yea the recruiters fudge a lot of records but by the time they get out of basic and a.i.t and get to there unit the unit does another back ground check and most of the ones that dont belong are sent home. As for gay people we have a policy dont ask and dont tell. I happen to know alllooot of gay people in the service. Anyway if the did the time than they payed the price. Most people that are in jail usally gets out on a plea bargain and the crimes are minor. In the middle east what do you thank makes up the terrorist groups. They are tired of been in a deppressed country. If people here in America dont watch it the same will happen here. I have people in my family that are gay, felons and addicts. Most are on welfare and can not find a good job to support there family. the ones that are felonys cant get a real job and most people know that. EVEN KNOW THEY PAYED THE PRICE FOR THERE CRIMES. Its the system that fails are citizens and are country. TAKE CARE OF ARE OWN FIRST. WE ALSO SOULD BE A SELF SUPPORTING COUNTRY......

I kind of agree. I have a perfect 20 out of 20 shot at 500 feet with a pistol(Glock and Colt), but the army would never take me. Not that I would ever fight for the US anyway. I will just have to use my talents for winning at Air soft.
They won't take handicapped people in either, which makes no sense at a desk job or in vehicle repair.

I personally think it shouldn't matter if your gay or not. And I'm sure that out of all the men and women enlisted in the military right now there is a crap load of gay people that are living a big secret. I don't think our gov. knows what the definition of free country is.
