If you have XP, you could try to roll back the registry a few days to a point you are sure the problem didnt exist.
See if that fixes the problem.
Any software you installed, or changes you made to your settings after the date you selected, will be rolled back to the previous setting.
Reboot for a clean start, then:
Start, Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, System Restore.
"Restore my computer to an earlier time", Next
Select a day from the popup calander ( before the problem started) that is highlighted, and click Next. Follow the prompts.
It will rollback/reboot to earlier registry settings that you selected from the restore calander.
Before you do the above procedure, you can make a system restore point, ( same menu) and add comments for yourself that your sound does not work properly, then continue the above procedure, and reload a previous version.
May the force be with you....

You first have to isolate the problem. How do you not get "most" sounds? If you're running windows you can go into the control panel and click on the sound icon. From there you will be able to set your sound properties. Sometimes the volume in the windows gets screwed up and you have to re-set the properties- it has happened to me in the old 98SE. Check your volume control knob on the speakers-is it turned off or way down? If that's not the problem click on the volume icon in the tray and see if that is set properly. If all is set correctly and no sound then you have driver problems or sound card gone bad.

To find out if you have a Audio program go to The run panel after clicking on the start tab then type DXDIAG click on OK, this will bring up the DirectX Diagnostic tool Go to each page and test your system making sure they all work, on the bottom left you will see a panel which tests the WHQL is this ticked? if not you are missing something, one other thing do you have DirectX If not download it from Microsoft DirectX 9 ,on the display page it should show your driver program like Nvidia or some other name, next check your sound device it should show a program if this page is blank you will need to find a sound program driver i have realtek AC 97 Driver 3.29 WHQL.This supports all Chip sets from ALC 101 up to 861 If you want to download this its free from www.majorgeeks.com or go to any download sites to find what you want most are free.OK you now have a driver that will give you sound. So look at the bottom of your screen right side next to the clock you should have a blue squire with yellow half circles around a yellow spot, click on this it brings up a screen allowing you to set up your sound system to how you like,as of the three plug in points at the back of your computer this even allows you to set them up without keep changing them from this panel.

Yeah then once you've achieved what moses stated you should work out the quantity icon back. Then proper click it and choose playback gadgets, then click the position the little image of a speaker is, then click houses, then ranges, make confident they are proper as a lot as 100 then click improvements and regulate the way you decide on. Loudness equaliser with a tick cos the sound is more advantageous acceptable.

Try looking in the bottom right hand corner of your screen, next to the clock. There should be a symbol that looks like a speaker. Double click on it and it should bring up the volume settings. Check that all the levels are sensible.

You have to take it to a Best Buy service station. Tell them it ran out of sound. They will check under the hood, replace the number of quarts needed, and road test for sound operability. They will advise you a tune-up is needed and will clean the windshield for you. All in about an hour.

I know this sounds silly, but check the volume settings. Failing this you will need to reload your drivers as a safe bet

Uninstall the device, reboot and then re-install.
Should sort it out.
If this doesnt work you can always splash out on a new sound card. You can buy usb one nows for a reasonable price.

if its all the sounds on your computer, check along the front and the sides to see if there is an independent volume control that has been adjusted down, using the volume control doesn't adjust this
