If you look at the lovebirds while they are standing on their perch, one should be standing with it's legs farther apart that the other. If a lovebird stands with it's legs close together, it is a male. The females stand with their legs a little further apart because they have a cervix.
The only way to really be able to tell for sure, however, is to have an Avian Vet do a DNA test.
I have had several lovebirds and have been able to distinguish for myself the sex of the bird with 100% accuracy.
Good luck.

Since it is a masked there is a trick that works for some breeders. it is not 100% though. Males have rounded eyes and females are more almond like. I will say this lovebird breeding does not bring alot of proffit and once a hen starts laying hard to stop them at time. Be sure your ready for 2 birds to grow to 20 and fast.

The answer about the females will sit on the perch with feet farther apart, the males sit with feet closer together--that is true.
Another thing you can try is checking the pelvic bone. Males have pelvic bones closer together-almost touching. Females have pelvic bones about 1/2 inch apart--so they can lay eggs.
This method is hard to use on babies, usually u will have to wait until the bird is about 6 months of age.

the only way to tell them apart is the male will look nicer...and the female might be alittle bigger, the only other way is subject them to DNA test...why bother...you've got what it takes, a male and a female...
