He is acknowledging you as the parent...it is a show of subordinance..
Wild dogs do this to gain favor of the pack leader, or when younger, of their mom..

I try to tell myself it's because she loves me, but that nagging voice in the back of my mind keeps saying that she considers me a human salt lick. Actually, wolves groom each other by licking each other, and it's meant as affection, so she's treating you as part of her pack.

yes, it is affection. their licking you is the way they show they love you, (like kisses).
if your dog is licking you all the time, he must really love you!!

it is a sign of affection, also if they haven't seen you even if it has been 10 mins. or an hour they will slobber u to death to show how much they missed u.

My little Yorkie always shows his good manners,he hasn't let me down yet.when I feed him he comes over and licks my leg.I always say your welcome..And if he needs to go outside he will lick your arm.Its our own sign language.But mainly its because he loves me.
