Two months ago, if anyone on the site had suggested that our government was kidnapping people without due process and taking them to secret CIA prisons in foreign countries. Even Liberals would have thought I was losing it and I would have been subjected to even worse from not only the vicious neocons, but the moderate well spoken Republicans .
Even now, some diehards are defending every violation of our Constitution and International Law.
I can well imagine our outrage if our citizens began disappearing off the streets, of say, Paris, simply blind folded, later kicked and beaten, and being flown to God knows where and tortured without even knowing what the hell it is they want from you!
Sound good, fine, let it happen to you, because every act against human dignity that our Government conducts in your, and my behalf condones it for everyone else!
If Bush is charged, let the chips fall where they may, he does not represent me when he faults everything I believe in!

Robin- do you advise "Is torture justified", or "Is putting the U. S. and Israel on the record justified"? i ought to assert that putting the U. S. on the record is justified as i have heard and skim from quite some substances that torture techniques are used. In performing as a rep of the U. S. or Israeli authorities i'm confident no minister ought to admit to this because it truly is not any longer solid politics to be considered to help this. yet i'm confident there are a approach of that extremely trust torture is how you could deal with particular circumstances. i imagine many defence reps from the U. S./ Israel ought to privately admit they are no longer hostile to torture, although they could no longer call it that. it truly is used as a fashion to an end and many imagine that it truly is an action well worth taking if it appears that evidently to save lives. it truly is obviously one rule for some and one for others. We ought to have democracies even with the indisputable fact that the authorities propaganda and spin are nonetheless completely alive and kicking. i'm confident that democratic international locations use un-democratic ability and the means of the media to acheive their aspirations foreign places.

"Manfred Nowak, the U.N. special investigator on torture, made the remarks as he was presenting a report on detainee conditions" The report is based on input from prisoners at the facility in "Gitmo". It's the same as going to Riker's Island prison and reporting that we have no crime in America because 95% of the inmates interviewed stated they were innocent.
The substance of both claims is based largely on the same input. Those held as terrorist suspects. Whadd'ya expect em to say? "No, I've been treated fairly, especially considering that I was a terrorist.???"
This Manfred Nowak is the same figure relating the information from those interviewed. One can take any issue, and cherry pick many "experts" willing to state a predetermined spin. "Secret detention" facilities CAN be a way of hiding mistreatment. It CAN also be the way they keep such areas safe from organized terrorist groups from rescuing their leaders.

This report is from the AP (Antiamerican Press) and is about the UN report.
This same UN that has ignored the genocide in the Sudan. The same UN that is corrupt as the day is long. The same UN that hates the US and everything it stands for, and tries to undermine our sovereignty.
Yeah, that has gotta be unbiased!

Torture is a tool. It is neither good or evil. Just like a hammer, or gun, or the internet, it is the user of the tool that is good or evil.
Never take a knife to a gun fight. When fighting for your life, it is foolish to restrict your choice of tools or weapons to be the "better man". All you'll be is dead. When engaged in a gun fight, at least take a gun, if possible take a bigger, better gun.
We should not torture everyone, everytime. But it is a tool we should have available for our use when it is appropriate. To deprive ourselves of the tools we need to survive is stupid and suicidal.

Its not the US that is doing it. Were you unsuccessful in school? Passed over for promotion? Neglected as a child? What is the reason for your illness? What a boob.
