I went to a dermatologist and they diagnosed me with telogen effluvium. How long will it take to correct itself? I am getting worried. My hair sheds like crazy.

I'm not sure if there is anything you can do medically, besides eating a balanced diet and getting your vitamins. Talk to your doc.

But, in the mean time take it easy on your hair. Only wash every other day. Keep it well conditioned to preventing breakage. Brush and blow dry minimally and consider cutting it short.

One more thing. I've always had a problem with my hair falling out because its natually curly, but when I started taking prenatal vitamins it stopped falling out and got really thick and shiny. You might want to give it a try. You can get them over the counter or by prescription from your ob/gyn.

Telogen effluvium means that a certain time ago (approximately 3 months), something interrupted the normal cycle of your hair. To read more about how this normal cycle works, check out http://familydoctor.org/081.xml. As long as whatever it was that caused the problem is no longer around, then your hair will start to grow normally in the next growth cycle. The only real concern is whether you are continuing to perpetually interrupt the normal cycle. The following is a partial list of things that cause temporary or ongoing telogen effluvium --

Acute blood loss
Childbirth
Crash diets (inadequate protein)
Drugs
  Coumarins
  Heparin
  Propanolol
  Vitamin A
High fever
Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism
Physical stress (e.g., surgery)
Physiologic (e.g., neonate)
Psychologic stress
Severe illness (e.g., systemic lupus erythematosus)

1. First don't make more tension, look at other people who are having less hair than you at your age. Be confident, hair is not only the thing which makes you attractive. Be confident. 2. Consult some good skin specialist and find out the reason for your hair loss, and get treatement for that. 3. You better not use any shampoos or hair oils blindly looking at advertisement. 4. Put only pure coconut oil to your head & weekly once put curds to your head leave it for one hour and take bath. 5. Once for two days atleast make a paste of red hybiscous flower plant's leaves and apply it to your head, leave for one hour and take bath. Try all these. I hope the best.

Tips
-if you can, wash hair every other day or every two days-it just depends how oily your hair gets.
-leave conditioner on for 10 minutes at least and don't put it on roots.
-drink lots of water and eat a lot of protein such as meat and peanut butter cause your hair is made from protein.
-always use a leave in conditioner for split ends.
-trim hair once a month since split ends stops hair growth.
-use heat protection every time.

Hair loss affects both men and women. Here are some natural remedies that can help boost hair growth: https://tinyurl.im/aH7Pa While genetics plays a role, there are other factors, including: hormonal imbalances, an underactive thyroid gland, nutrient deficiencies and insufficient scalp circulation.

hey dont worry im 18 male and even im losing hair since my dad has gone bald almost completely it may be that i have inherited this feature from him. as far as i knw the chances are very less to get ur hair back but improving ur diet , exercising and consulting a doctor would be a good idea.

hope u liked my suggestion , just chill and dont worry abt it too much as the more u think the more u loose.

I'M GOIN THROUGH THE SAME THING. BUT MINE CAME FROM THE COLOR IN MY HAIR. I'M NOW TAKING SOME HAIR PILLS BECAUSE OF LACK OF PROTEIN. YOU MAY HAVE LACK OF PROTEIN. GET YOUR HAIR TREATED ONCE A WEEK WITH PROTEIN TREATMENTS.. SEE IF THAT WORKS
