No brainer. Foreman. One round.
Dempsey comes from that class of heavyweights that you can't count because they didn't face black competition.

I have seen some old films of Dempsey the Giant Killer pummeling Jess Willard and beating big Luis Firpo and knocking him down seven times in the process. I also saw Dempsey land one left hook that knocked out Jack Sharkey. I also watched George Foreman demolish Joe Frazier twice, Ken Norton and a life and death struggle with Ron Lyle so obviously both men are well known for their awesome power. Though I rank Dempsey higher in my personal ranking I base a lot of these questions on how they match up. I could see a batlle of two dynamite punchers dealing out trememndous punishment with Foreman finally winning over a courageous Dempsey in the 7th round by a nearly exhausted Foreman. Even though I rank Dempsey higher based on his record, styles do indeed make fights and Foreman would finally win a terrific battle with Jack.

Luis Firpo Knocked Dempsey off the Ring,
and that is Firpo not a known Puncher.
Dempsey never Really Face a guy with real skills and power.
A 46 year old George Foreman would knock out the 26 year old Dempsey Cold.
Foreman KO2 Dempsey.

Gotta go with Foreman in a short but lively (ala Hearns-Hagler) fight. I was watching some of Dempsey's fights last night. Even when he was older and in trouble with Tunney he didn't know how to back off. In his prime he would've wanted to go toe to toe with Foreman and let the chips fall where ever they fell. George is too big, and too good AND hard of a puncher to lose to a much smaller but game Dempsey. Foreman in 3.
Brad, just to clarify, Dempsey did sign to fight Harry Wills (who I think would've beaten him), but Tex Rickard didn't want to promote it. Yes, meddling promoters hurt boxing even back in the 20s.

Big George clubs down Dempsey within 4 rounds. Big George aint no Jess Willard. Don't get me wrong Dempsey would get his licks in but Big George can take a punch!

Dempsey, he was old school pounder, he was unbreakable. Foreman a good fighter, even in his prime couldn't stand up to old Jack's grit.
