I think in most states you can, but there are some issues you have to check on first. Check with your city Social Services, Foster Care Adoptive Child Department or whatever it is called in your town for the rules regarding adopting. Each state is different and some might say that if you are female you can't adopt a male teen and vice -verse. Some might say you have to be married. So check on the rules before you decide anything. Also remember that the older children are harder to place and may have been in the system for a long time and are "hardened" in that they don't trust others to well and that they may have a chip on their shoulders too. Bottom line be sure you want to do this because there will most likely be a background check of you, several home visits, you might have to take a parenting class, possible go for family counseling down the road if is best for the child. I commend you for wanting to give an older child a home because every child needs a home and lots of love. But you also remember if you do this it will be for a lifetime of love, laughs, tears. joys and homework! I wish you the best in your efforts.

Yes you can. Your local services agency should help and a good family practising attorney. You may have to go through normal steps such as medical history, psychologicals, employment history and income, and a few other things. You may have to prove to family courts that the adoption of the minor is in the best interest of the child.

Sure why couldn't you. You have to prove you're a mentally & financially secure person. It's very unlikely they'll let you adopt without having a spouse. Your spouse will also have to be secure.

Contact the social services dept. You might try by becoming a foster home for teen kids. If you click with one and things work out right, you could just apply for adoping him/her.

Good luck to you!

Check with your local State Department of Human Resources. I understand that the adoption process undergoes various stages. They can give you pamphlets on how the process works. I do know that part of the process is parenting classes and interviews. They can help you decide if you want to go through your state or private lawyers.
