I started chewing gum eclipse polar ice every time I wanted a smoke and I started to cut down. After a week of that I was down to 1 a day then none. Stop smoking at time or places that you would the most. For me it was in the car and the bar. I smoked for over 8 years and i quit almost 3 years ago. And yes I still chew gum at the bar!
You will only be able to quit when you really set your mind to do so!

Lots of people substitute their craving by chewing gum. Sugerless gum is the best for your teeth. Try Dentyne Ice or other such chicklet type sugerless gums. Cold turkey is the best option but gum can help. Also if you are feeling insecure and smoking has helped you with occupying your hands to make you feel less secure you can get some charm to hold whenever you feel like smoking. If you can stop without using some crutch all the better but sometimes a fun, imaginative crutch for a time can work wonders.

It took me about 6 times and I finally can say that I have made it. It will 21 months on 10/9/06.
I've tried cold turkey and I've the patch. My last and final time was with the patch and it went very well.
It's been a long road and I gained 30 lbs. However I am now concentrating on losing the weight I gained and have lost 13 lbs.
If you really want to quit you can do it, however you really have to want to do or you won't be successful. Your mind plays alot of tricks on you.
Good Luck!

well I am a smoker and been trying for yrs now to quit, I tried chewing bubble gum, tried sucking on lolipops, the only thing that has been keeping me from smoking as much, now I still smoke but not as much and maybe one of the things I just said will help, but I find working out has helpped me out, and I do not look at the food, what ever you do if and when you quit do not look at food, cause you will gain lots of weight alright, there is also patches out there that may help, but first of all talk to your doctor see what he suggests, best way to go. Good Luck!

when ever you want a smoke, usually people eat so they keep their hands busy, but then they gain weight, so when ever you feel like a smoke, have a bottle of water! Try the patch, and cut down slowly! Don't hang around other smokers, cause that'll cause you to pick it up and crave it more! Good luck sweetie, choosing to quit and making that initial step is the hardest, but when its all said and done, it'll be the best choice you've made to benefit the health of you and everyone around you! Good job girl! You can do it!

My advice is to just quit cold turkey and try to distance yourself from smokers for awhile. Smoking ages you, makes your hair and clothing stink as well as your car and house. Look at the picture of the person asking "why am I so beautiful" on here. That person is probably only 30 but a heavy smoker! Seriously though, good luck!

Ask your doctor about Chantix. I just started taking it after some 50+ year smokers reported to me that they stopped with Chantix. The presciption is high, but, may be worth it. Grandpa quit after 60 years of smoking using Chantix and had tried everything to quit previously. I am on my second day and already noticed I am not smoking as much. Good luck !

Welbrutrin. I quit 2 yrs ago but picked it back up...i want to quit again. Peppermint helps with the cravings. I would just say stay busy. If you feel the urge try exercising you won't need one after that. Always remember the craving will pass. Also sunflower seeds with shells helped me. When I quit chewing was a big thing for me. I chewed on anything for a while. Good luck and I know it's a tough one.

I quit a little over 10 years ago. You are right. It is HARD TO DO!
I quit cold turkey. It took me a few tries, but I did it. It was weeks before I could think straight, and years before I stopped thinking of smoking. I used to dream of smoking. I was hooked bad.
My technique was to promise myself a substantial reward if I made it a year. In my case, it was a new motorcycle. That was my motivation.

Ok let me go through something with you..yes smoking can be labelled as a disgusting habbit..so can many other things...drinking..lying...cheating etc. I'm not a smoker...but I can't sount the number of times I've heard non-smokers bitchin about ppl who smoke...'they'll never date a smokér'etc..so to some extent I understnad why ppl want to quit...In terms of health...I'm not an advocate for quitting...Is it me alone or how many old folks do you kno who have been smoking for yrs and still are...80yrs..still puffin and still living strong....now how many ppl have lost their lives in reckless misfortunes? Car accidents..other road fatalities..freak accidents..etc...My spin on this...if quitting is so hard for u...stop stressing it....there are other imp. factors in life to stress about...if u meet someone who u love and they want u to quit then use them as a support system to help u through such a difficult time period...
