For a 7 week old pup, you NEED to feed him 3 times a day. In fact, i'm suprised the breeder let you bring him/her at this young of age. Most breeders don't let them go until after 8 weeks. Now, for your question. As a pup, your dog will eat 2-3 times more than he normally would as an adult. I for one know that my pup ate up to six cups of food a day while my adults ate 3.5-4 cups. This is feeding them Royal Canin and Natural Balance dog food. Up until 5 month old, feed him 3 times a day. From then on until 10 months, its 2 times a day. After that, you could drop him down to 1 a day but 2 a day is always healthier and safer. Expect him to eat more than the adults and in fact, encourage it. Try feeding him at least 1.5 cups per feeding up until he is 5 months old. At 5 months, switch to 1.5 and 2 cups with the feedings. after 9 months, switch him to 2 cups and 2 cups. Forget about the weight of the food now. He is old enough that you don't need to weight it but you do need to measure it. Get yourself some measuring cups or a small pan that says its size (cup, pint, quart, etc) Also, remember, get a dog food with at least the first ingredient being some kind of protein (chicken, lamb, beef, fish). The best ones on the market are Canidae, Royal Canin, Wellness, Natural Balance.

First of all, check w/ your vet how much a puppy that age should be eating. Puppies should be fed 2-3 times a day and in portions. Feed your puppy in a separate area and don't allow him to get to your other dog's food. If you feed them both at the same time, once they are done remove the food to avoid the puppy eating too much. Also, that young, a puppy is not ready for adult dog food yet. And make sure he gets plenty of exercise so he doesn't get fat, just not immediately after eating.

I don't think you can overfeed a 7 week old puppy.
Check the label on the puppy food that you are feeding him, there should be a general guideline to follow. And puppies that young should be fed 3-4 times daily. When they get older you can cut it down to once or twice a day.
Good luck.

I used to have a pug that was WAY too fat!!!! I am a firm believer in Iams Weight Control formula. My dog went from almost thirty pounds to twenty. Also you need to cut his food intake down even if it's just until he loses the weight needed. Just like humans he needs exercise, if obesity takes a toll on his body, he can become very sick. Imagine how you'd feel if you were severely overweight. it's not healthy for him either. Cut his food down to half of what you would normally feed him. Meaning if you fed him 2 cups twice a day (which is a lot of food) cut him down to 1 cup twice a day or two cups once a day.

If he's eating the other food, he may not be getting enough. Try giving him alittle more.
OR he could just be selfish.
