Well my back hurts REALLY bad when I lay down, but once it settles it doesn't hurt anymore, but if I move it does. When I am up and moving around and in gym class and stuff, it doesn't hurt at all. Just when I lay down and sit down. What's wrong?

By the way, I'm thirteen.

This is muscular pain. I have experienced the same thing before, it's difficult to even draw a breath it hurts so bad and then it relaxes and you feel okay until you move. A few suggestions...first, drink a lot of water during and after any physical activities, this helps flush the lactic acid buildup on your muscles which causes soreness. Secondly, try taking a warm bath or shower before bed to relax the muscles. Thirdly, be sure you are stretching properly and cooling down after you exercise. If this is persistant and occurs several times a week, you may need to have your physician look at it, just to rule out minor strains or scholeosis. Make sure to sit straight and stand up straight as well and lift with your knees instead of your back. You may be just suffering some 'growing pains' but all of these things should help alleviate some of your pain.

Some of the others have good suggestions....it could be that you are growing.

It could also be that your back was weakened from something. Some people have a curve to their spine that when they lie down it feels like their backbone is "falling" or sagging. Tell your doctor about this, and your doctor may be able to find the cause, or recommend some back exercises to strengthen the muscles.

Your muscles are spasming and trying to settle & relax. Try curling up when you lay down on your side & put a pillow under your knees when you are on your back. you are probably growing fast at this stage. Good luck!

Have your mom take you to a chiropractor and get checked for scoliosis. That is a common issue that can be corrected with therapy. If that is not the issue, you may simply have a pinched nerve which can be resolved with chiropractic adjustment.

it may be your posture when you are standing and running around that causes your back to hurt when you lay down
like its trying to realign itself

You might want to take advil; it should help. If not, talk to your parents to see if they can get you to see a chiropractor.
