I just would like to know how you have liked this car. What gas mileage do you get, how reliable is the car, have you had a lot of problems with it, etc. Any information would be appreciated.

Well... Lately VW has had some reliability issues. However, I dont think that they are bad enough to make me NOT buy one. Yes, repair costs are higher than American cars. However, they are not any higher than Japanese repair prices, although they need repair more often than Japanese cars. Lets look at this car, and how you will use it.

It is a compact car that is Front Wheel drive. It should drive and handle well in all seasons. It will not have alot of room for passengers in the back seat area, but if U dont haul folks around alot that wont matter much. The Mileage is good on these. You should expect upper 20s for economy in the city and a little more on the highway. The biggest drawback to these cars is that the Trunk is Really tiny because of the body style of the car... however... the body style is Really Cute! and that is what is appealing about the car!

So, if you can afford the price of the car, and have decent income to afford a repair now and then... and can tolerate a tiny trunk (which can be a pain when shopping or traveling) this could be a fun and efficient car for you. Are there better cars for the same money on the market? YES... but there is only one car that looks like this on the road! All the other compact cars in this price range are BORING! I know... I drive a 98 Escort Wagon. It is a great little car... but it is BORING! lol

Take the car to an independant VW mechanic for a complete inspection before you buy... and if it checks out good from the mechanic go for it! :-)

After all... whats the worst thing that could happen. If you buy it and dont like it... just sell it and buy something else!

The older pre-1978 models were probably the best built cars in its class. Getting the engine in and out was fairly easy so if you ever needed to do a rebuild, you could jack the car up, unbolt the engine and take it your house to work on it. Once you were done you could easily put it back in.

They can only be serviced in the dealership or expensive import repair shops, and they become really expensive to maintain.
