Not usually - neuro exams are usually given when some kind of neurological disease is suspected? I had one for a post-stroke examination, when they were looking for MS and looking for a brain tumor. I've also had one for a pinched nerve in my back to assess any damage done.

Hope that helps!

"CRAZY"?? What does that mean? That is the question...and NO, it is not meant to determine mental illness. It will determine whether or not there or neurological problems; but one does not equal the other. What was your goal when you asked this question?
There are people in such horrible physical pain that they may not function and carry on a "normal" life...they do not have a "mental illness." There are people on psychotropic drugs that have jobs and families and no one knows they are on meds; but they have some sort of official diagnosis. There are people taking anti-depressants and some that should be...

The issue is: can the person in question carry on in society with a job and friends and family members: a diagnosis merely helps the process to recovery. It is NOT a label unless you wear it like one or give someone else the power to do so...

No. It checks to see that all your nerves are responding correctly to the appropriate stimuli. For instance, normally you would jerk your hand away if you touched something hot. Some people can't feel pain & that is not a normal neurological response.

A psychiatric exam. is for your mental state. Don't worry - it's not painful!

No that would be a psychiatrict exam. A neurologic exam would tell you if there is a physical problem with the brain.
