I am babysitting a 3 1/2 year old girl tonight, while her parents attend a wake. This is the first time I am watching her. Any tips or advice? Also, I'm bringing a Barbie video, coloring books/crayons and a Kelly doll. Should I bring anything else??

You really don't need to bring anything just let her show you around her room and pick a few things of her interest to play with. Don't force the Barbie video on her she may not like Barbie ask her if she wants to watch a movie and if she picks a few then you can suggest your movie. All you really need to do is act like your really interested in her stuff. Ask her questions about her things and what they do. Don't let her run off with the crayons if she is like my daughter she will run off and color on the wall. Just be yourself and don't act scared kids can since that you are nervous and so they will be too, so once the door opens and she see's you go up to her and introduce yourself. Also do things at her pace don't rush into another activity with out consulting her first. Since this is your first time watching her let her choose and you suggest, that way she feels it's all about her.

3yr olds can bad some can be great, nice and quite, but if she has a thing with strangers look out. Try to be her friend and play with her as much as possible that way she gets to trust you. Then when you need her to go to bed she will with not much of a fight. try to make play time fun. cartoons work most of the time so Barbie would be great.

When she falls asleep,if it's before the parents come home...Clean up the house.Do any dishes in the sink. Parents look at that also when hiring a babysitter, along with whether the child had a good time.

That age is usually pretty easy.

Offer to play a game with her but be flexible about bending the rules and don't expect to make it all the way through the game. That is usually a good age to start teaching how to play Uno.

keep her busy and it will be a breez, when they get boared is when the tantrums start. My daughter is fine as long as she has something to do if shes boared then she will start to find other things to play with like some baby powder then shell dust the house with powder.
