Aussies are nippers by nature. Your pup is probably trying to 'herd' the people who come to visit you. You know, like herding a group of livestock. My black tri used to do the same thing when she was younger. She's 2 now and doesn't nip anymore.
I guess what you have to do until your pup outgrows it's nipping, is to correct it when it nips. Pull it away from who it's trying to nip and verbally say "NO"! Be consistent. That's the best thing you can do is to be consistent.
Take care of your pup. It depends on you!

How to Stop Your Dog from Jumping up on You in a Few Minutes
Owners and visitors alike hate it when unexpectedly your dog jumps up on you knocking you down, getting you dirty or spilling your packages. Now in minutes you can stop that dead.

Steps
Method 1
Put a collar with leash attached to your dog and call him over to you and encourage him to jump on you like you wished you never had done previously. Tell him in a semi firm voice "bad dog" don't be too harsh because you have let him do it for a long time and he will wonder why you are suddenly so angry.
With him facing you at your feet, step on the leash and keep your foot on it. Then encourage him to jump. He will get only inches off the ground. You then give him a treat and say "good boy" (or girl). Try it again and in only a very short time he will stop jumping. You may have to repeat this for a couple of days but it is guaranteed!
Method 2
The next time your dog jumps on you grab their front paws as to hold them in an upright position.
A dog walks on all fours and has a hard time balancing on just two legs. Make sure you are not pulling up on the dog. Hold their paws at a hieght that just keeps them upright and standing on their two back paws.
Hold this position for about 5 secs and notice that the dog will try to squirm away since they are having trouble supporting themselves.
Say "bad dog" and let their paws go.
Repeat, each time the dog jumps up. Soon they will learn that they dont want to get into this position and will no longer jump up on you.

My favorite dog. Does he know the commands: Come, Sit, Stay, Leave it? If he does not know basic commands he should not be free without a leash or fence for his own protecton. If he does know those commands; use them. He can not jump or nip if he is sitting beside you. Have treats for rewarding him for staying beside you while someone leaves until he gets the hang of it. It is correct that he want's to keep everyone together like they are his herd but he can learn a command of "let them go" just as he would in herding. The more you learn about your dog and his natural insticts the better pals you will be.

obedience training.

A method I find works well is to have something to unnaturally noisey to enforce your command.

Fill a small bottle with beads, about half way, and when you instruct your dog to get down, make a loud noise with the rattle.

Patience is key, the noise will startle the animal enough for it to realise something it is doing aint right

you have to properly train your dogs, use treats and make sure that he/she knows the 'come' command and when you call him/her they should come over and leave the people alone. You can go to training classes, don't go to petsmart they are not qualified and have bad trainers, research online to see if you can find a good school in your area. Shepperd dogs are very smart and highly trainable.

uh oh, i have an aussy shep, 12 weeks old. right now she likes to tug at your pants leg when she wants you to stop walking, but she's tiny enough that we just ignore her and it stops. she's only tried to herd my other dog, who just happens to be blind and has no clue whats going on. i would recommend obediance classes. or keep her on a leash so that she's not able to herd the people trying to leave her property. she's just trying to get them to stay where she wants them to stay, she's herding them like she was bred to do.

So..
Understanding how to train your dog and how to correct bad behaviours is very important. That's why I suggest to follow a good training course. There are plenty of books and training material. One online course I recommend (I like it because it has hundreds of videos) is http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=572

It helped me a lot.
Cheers.

Good luck with that! Shepards have a herding instinct, so they will herd anything including people and children. the best idea I can think of is to wear him out completely, give him a lot more excercise.

It is in your dog. It is a Shepard it is trying to keep people rounded up. Try taking it to an obedience school. They are cool dogs. Had one when I was young. Good luck!
