While it's practically impossible to define philosophy to the satisfaction of everyone due to its breadth, the distinction between philosophy and religion is fairly clear.
Philosophy is a discipline of logic and reasoning. It starts with basic assumptions that are widely agreed-upon, and argues rational conclusions from those.
Religion starts with either traditional mythos or revealed knowledge as assumptions, and either ends there, or builds upon those.
Some religions use philosophical methods and/or include practical philosophy in their teachings, but in those cases, the practical philosophy could stand alone, regardless of the religious bases.

religeon is based on a mythology, and philosophy is just a way of thinking or acting based on someones(that actually llived) ideas.
In philosohy there is room for argument(discussion not the fighting kind), if fact many philosophers want to discuss their ideas and improve or change them. In religeon(nothing more than the mythology of those in power) there is no room for argument. And even discussion can get you killed. You used to be able to get your head cut off for saying that the world was round, or that the earth revolved around the sun, or to talk about evolution, because xtain mythology said that was wrong, science has proven this now, one day science will prove all religeon buII$hit, how will the priests have acess to little boys to rape?
Think that those wacky days of being able to get killed for saying something against the religeon in power are over? Go to Iran, or most and muslim country.

Philosophy seeks Truth in such a form that it can be expressed with mathematical precision, or at least in mathematical terms (see: logical calculus, predicate calculus). Philosophy acknowledges that the ultimate truths are unprovable, that man cannot even proof his own existence (though his experience is a strong evidence, evidence is not proof).
Religion accepts man's existence and the existence of things without proof or logic. Experience is sufficient for religious inquiry.

The Bible, not necessarly religion has a beginning, a climax and an end. Philosophy has no end. It answers no questions. It gives no purpose.
The Bible warns against philosophy, empty teachings of men and of drifting around in the wind.
Col 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
Jam 1:6 but let him ask in faith, nothing doubting. For he that doubts is like a wave of the sea driven by the wind and tossed about;

Religion has to do with belief, and beliefs are hard to break or change.
Philosophy on the other hand is an idea, ideas are free to change form whenever they please, and do.
