We just got my husband a fairly nice car on a payment, since that's what he wanted. With his new job he commutes far and wanted something reliable. He picked it out himself and everything. So now we have two car payments, his car and my van. We can afford it but now we are a little more tight. But I thought this would cure him of wanting to buy and sell so many vehicles if he had one that he really liked. He still owns 3 trucks that sit in the yard and he doesn't drive, plus one more truck that he uses once in a while. And right after buying his car he said he wished he would have gotten this one truck instead, but obviously he won't be able to get out of the loan to get it. Now he's talking about buying a 4 Runner with a bad motor. Why can't he just be happy with the one nice car he has a payment on and stop buying and selling all of these other more junky vehicles? We can't afford any more fixer uppers, and he doesn't have the time.

Normal? Yes. Acceptable? Maybe not. FIVE vehicles in addition to the 2 that are used daily? I would not tolerate that. It's one thing to have a hobby car if you really do work on it, but to accumulate vehicles that just take up room and make your house look like a junkyard? No way. If it were me, I would have him get rid of at least 2 of the current vehicles before getting another one. Remind him that he doesn't have (or take) the time to do the work the vehicles need. Instead of buying ANOTHER vehicle that needs work, why not put the money into fixing the vehicles you already HAVE? Then you can sell them, and get your next project.

unless he's acutally doing something with them, i.e. fixing them up and reselling them, then he's pretty much wasting money. talk with him and tell him to fix or sell the trucks he has now. through in the word divorce too, that should scare him.

Either get used to it or say goodbye. He'll never change. He MAY slow down a little when funds dry up, but he'll NEVER change.
He sounds like me.

It gives us mechanics something to be busy with. I have 4 cars myself and always am tinkering with them, it is like an addiction!
