You wont have to pay for another ticket, although you will need to disclose that you would like to take a pet in the cabin (cargo). There is usually an extra charge for pets onboard but it isnt as much as another ticket, normally it is between $40-$100 depending on the airline you travel. There are restrictions and a limited amount of carriers allowed in the cabin(1-4, again depending on the airline) so you will want to contact the reservations dept. asap. If you waited until you got to the airport and the max amount of pets were already onboard you would be up the creek. Plan your travel in advance and make sure that your pup is used to being crated. Federal Law requires that the animal is kept secured for the entire flight..aka..in the carrier. You will not be allowed to take him/her out at all. Your dog must be able to comfortably stand up, turn around, and lay down in the carrier ( I recommend a Sherpa (soft sided) carrier for in cabin travel). For a larger dog (25lbs+ ) they will have to go in cargo. Make sure that you have a sturdy sky-kennel for your dog.

If your puppy can fit in an airline approved (necessary) and is small enough to fit under your seat, there is no extra charge. However, if the dog has to go cargo, there are very strict regulations, and you have to pay the cargo price, according to the weight and size of crate. You must have a Health Certificate, dated within 10 days of travel, provide this from the Vet, giving dates of all required vaccinations. You just can't show up at the airport with a dog/puppy without prior authorization and necessary forms to fill out. And, most airlines require this information at least three days prior to flight.

No. Your dog would actually be put into a crate (that you supply) in the cargo area of the plane. It could cost anywhere from $75 to $350, depending on the length of the flight. Some airlines won't even let you bring your pup along.

If you're taking a puppy on board with you it has to be small enough to fit in a carrier small enough to fit under the seat and it's anywhere from $50-$100. Or you can put it in the cargo area and I'm not sure how much that it.

Best thing to do is call the airline you plan on flying. There are all kind of new security regulations and they can vary by airline. Get the company policies. Take names and keep track of what you are being told.

You don't pay for a passenger ticket. Instead, you check in your dog as cargo (you pay cargo rates based on the size and weight). Contact your airline. They'll be able to give you the details.

Check the airlines website. They will have instructions for pets. If it's small enough to crate and fit under the seat, I thing it's like 50 bucks. Don't put it in baggage.....

My understanding is that if it fits in a small carrier under the seat it is like a carry on bag. If its bigger it has to go in a carrier in with the luggage with a cost.
