Many shelters have been spaying or neutering kittens as early as two months prior to their adoption for the last ten years in order to help reduce the number of homeless cats and kittens that are tragically euthanized because there are not enough homes for them.
I would do it as soon as you can find a vet or a clinic that will. Six months can be too late and your kitten may go into heat at five months.
Go to: www.winnfelinehealth.org. They did a long-term study on the early "fixing" of cats and found there to be no harm in doing it as young as two months.

At my clinic we usually recommend between 4 and 6 months of age. Studies have shown that neutering at very young ages, like 8 weeks old, has no lasting adverse effects on the cat's health, but most vets like to wait until they are a little older so that they are able to handle surgery a little better and they are easier to operate on. Don't wait until after 6 months of age or you may very well have a new litter of kittens on your hands. Cats can go into heat as early as 4 months of age, so 4 months is a good time to do it. There are no health risks associated with spaying at that age and you will likely catch her before she goes through her first heat.

You can get them spayed as early as 12 weeks odl. I wouldn't wait any longer than 6 months old though.

I have had MANY cats over my 42 years. MY vet recommends spaying females @ 5 months old, and neutering males @ 9 months old.

Spaying should hopfully be before the first heat. That can occur as early as four months. I only have boy cats. They are easier to neuter and their dispositions are much nicer.

Usually around 3 or 4 months is a good age. Your veterinarian my have a certain requirement, but I would get it done early.
