Why does eating spicy food sometimes make a person sweat?

Spicy foods, such as jalapenos and chili peppers, contain a chemical which stimulates the same nerve endings in the mouth as does a rise in temperature. These nerves, which don't know the difference, send messages to the brain telling it the temperature near your face has increased. Your brain reacts by activating cooling mechanisms to reduce the temperature around your face, and one of those mechanisms is perspiration.

When eating foods loaded with chiles, ginger, hot sauces and certain spices you’ll sweat. Because sweating is the body’s cooling system, producing a little perspiration should lower the exterior body temp a degree or two. Hot Hot Hot

"The chemical capsaicin, a component of spicy foods, is what causes sweating. It does this by stimulating nerve endings in the mouth and tongue that, normally, only respond to a rise in body temperature. As a result, the brain receives a false signal that body temperature has risen. This initiates the chain of physiological events that leads to the sweating of the face."

So, you've had a few too many alcoholic drinks and you're feeling kind of woozy. That's because, once it's consumed, alcohol is quickly dispersed into a person's bloodstream. It then travels throughout the entire body. Drinking too much alcohol can cause slurred speech, blurry vision, difficulty in walking, slow reactions, impaired judgment, and many other side effects. Now, you need homemade cures for a hangover.: 1) One of the most popular cures for a hangover is to drink hot, black, caffeinated coffee. The caffeine will actually help dull a pounding headache. It will also rev up your body. But be careful; it might work with the alcohol to further dehydrate it. A weak cup of coffee may be okay but a lot of caffeine will continue to dehydrate you, the opposite of what you want right now. 2) Instead of drinking black coffee for your hangover, try drinking a large glass of fruit juice instead. The sugar content in fruit juice will aid in your body's attempt to get rid of the alcohol. Fruit drinks also contain Vitamin C. Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant that will also do the same job. Drink orange juice fo the Vit C. 3) Since alcohol actually dehydrates your body, one of the best homemade cures for a hangover is to simply drink plenty of water. Water will not, as it's believed, make you feel drunk again. Instead, water will rehydrate your body and help flush the alcohol and other toxins out of your system faster. 4) Some people recommend drinking sports drink like Gatorade(TM) Powerade;or Pedialyte(TM) instead of plain water. The Gatorade contains sodium which will help get your body hydrated again. Pedialyte contains electrolytes. Your body needs electrolytes in order to maintain cell impulses. 5) If your stomach can tolerate it, another of the most efficient homemade cures for a hangover is to eat a good, healthy meal. Lean steak, eggs, toast, and hash browns can help cure the typical hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, that drinking too much alcohol can cause. A good meal can also help replenish valuable vitamins and minerals that your body needs. 6) Stay away from fatty or fried foods. They can easily upset your already-nauseated stomach. Not only that, but your liver is already trying to rid your body of the alcohol. It doesn't need fatty or fried foods to deal with on top of that. 7) Eat mineral rich food like pickles or canned fish 8) .Drink a Bloody Mary. While the popular phrase “hair of the dog that bit you” may sound logical with a shot of whiskey left in the bottle next to your bed, it’s only temporary. Try a Bloody Mary instead, while your blood is dealing with the new alcohol it is ignoring the old and in the mean time tomato juice and celery are full of vitamins. If you drank the last of the vodka make a Virgin Mary. Another spicy morning after drink option is Hair of the Dog, in which gin and hot sauce are sure to bite your hangover back. 9).Take a shower, switching between cold and hot water 10) Try Alka Seltzer Morning Relief. One reader says that it's all that he and his wife have found that really works for them. He stumbled across this "cure" while his wife was still suffering after two days, within 15 minutes after taking the Alka Seltzer she was fine. 11). Get some exercise. Another reader suggests doing some sort of physical activity. He writes, "In the rare case of having hangover I usually drink about 1-2 liters of water and go outside to do some exercise like mountain climbing, swimming, cycling or just about anything that keeps me sweating." It takes willpower to move like that when standing seems like a challenge, but it is a good theory. 12).The side effects of aspirin, Tylenol and ibuprofen can be magnified when alcohol is in your system, so it is best (even though it may be the first thing you reach for) to avoid them to kill the hangover pain. Aspirin is a blood thinner, just like alcohol, and can intensify its effects and Tylenol (or acetaminophen) can cause more damage to your liver. Ibuprofen can also cause stomach bleeding. So be cautious when going for the quick relief. 13) .As an antidote, one reader takes a little extra multi B vitamin and drinks a lot of water before going to sleep.
