I've never heard that Pantene isn't good for your hair unless it's a knock off brand. I use Herbal Essences Shampoo, and it works wonder, my hair stays soft and volumized. Also try Garnier Fructis if you like that better.

I am a hairstylist and have been for over 17 years. Most stylists are not telling you to use professional brands because they're trying to get more money out of you. Even the products sold to your yield very little profit for themselves. They recommend salon products because they truly believe that they are better...and in most instances, they are. The reason that the shampoos and conditioners you buy in a supermarket or drugstore are so much cheaper is because the ingredients are inexpensive. They also contain a lot of things, like waxes, that adhere to the hair and in the beginning might make your hair feel better, but after a short period of time it builds up and weighs down your hair making it unmanagable. It also interferes with chemical services like colors, perms and relaxers, and even conditioning treatments. Another reason why stylists recommend salon products is because they use them and see the results. They also see the people that come in and use other products. There are stylists I'm sure that are really only after the almighty buck, but most really want you to be happy and have the best hair possible. After all, you are a walking billboard advertising their work...which is another reason why they want you to use the best products possible. Although some salon products are VERY expensive, IMO, there are also some that are affordable, especially if you consider that you'll need less product to get the job done. Shampoo made for oily hair should only be used in extreme cases. They tend to be too harsh and cause the oil glands to overcompensate. Use a good shampoo for normal hair and cool water, never warm or hot. You might need to shampoo your hair in a sink or separate from the shower so that you can use the cool water. Too warm water will also stimulate those oil glands. Before shampooing Brush your hair for a minute or two to get the oils distributed. Shampoo in the morning because over night oil is going to collect and you won't make it til noon before your hair is very oily. If you don't have long hair or chemical treatments like color, you probably won't need a conditioner. Brushing your hair will move the oil from your scalp through the ends, that's enough. I have had oily hair all my life, so I completely understand the frustration! when using products go for lighter products like mousse or lotions. hope this helps, good luck.

All the people in hair business say that you should only use shampoo you can only buy in hair stylist shops.
Some say that this is only because they want all the money they can suck out of people - but there might be a point.

Usually all the so called "cheap" normal shampoos you are able to buy from normal shops, do contain more water than the main shampoo product in it. Therefor its cheaper.
And also conditioner; they usually only have silicon in them - so that hair does seem to be thick and glossy - but the product is not really repair the hair.

So, if you need a real good shampoo, I recomend good shampoo fom the brand Goldwell, and styling products from Schwarzkopf, for example Osis. I love Osis styling products.
They are all a bit expensive; but it worth it, because they last much longer (you dont need so much of it at time), and they do take care of your hair.

Pantene contains alcohol. A heavy amount of alcohol too. That said, your hair may look good for a short period of time, but then it will start acting up. Try Garnier products. These measure up to the expensive brands and the quality is just excellent-

It has alot of wax, which in turn causing alot of build up. It is also drenched with perfume. My stylist told me never to buy Pantene. Try Biolage, that is a great shampoo. It is the best up to now, that I have tried. It leaves my hair really bouncy, shiny and soft, it is so healthy.

Well I like Finesse and I do agree that Pantene dries out your hair so I never use it. Biolage is great I hear. You just have to make sure your getting the right type of shampoo i.e. for body, color treated hair etc. etc.

The chemicals in Pantene are really powerful. They actually make your hair fall. I would prefer Johnson's Baby Shampoo(I used to use it!You don't have to be embarrased). Johnson's Baby shampoo is mild and it prevents hairfall. Presently I use Dove Conditioner.....Its good. It makes your hair softer and stronger.
Good luck!

Whether it's pantene or dollar store shampoo, people are always going to say their brand is better, in this day and age there are so many products, that I'm surprised that we are all not bald, if you really stop and think about that carefully. For you answer you might want to consult your Dr., and not anyone at a hair salon, they will only tell you the opposite to promote their products.

I'm a hairstylist of 5 years...
b/c it has a lot of the same stuff that floor wax has in it. I was in beauty school they did a demo shampooed the same manikin over and over with pantene then permed it and the perm looked shitty and the same goes for the color.
the chemical(perms or color) needs to penetrate the cuticle of the hair shaft and if it has a wax build up it cant penetrate as well as it should be able to

everyones hair texture and condition is different It really depends on your body chemistry.
nexxus- exoil is great to get rid of oil
your could try big sexy hair, bedhead and catwalk are good
but as far as products to boost volume joico makes a rootboost called hirise hair its great

Garnier Fructis, or Redkin is the best. Pantene just leaves a lot of build up on your hair, and causes baldness after a while.
