It does work, sort of, you still have to wash your hair just not use any soapy products, the hair folicles are working on a self adjusting mechanism, so they produce enough oil to keep your hair in good condition, if you keep washing the oils away with shampoo they just increase the amount of oil they produce. Once you stop using shampoo / soaps they take a few weeks to adjust to a new level and then produce a much lower amount of oil / grease.

Actually I have been in a similar situation where I could not wash my hair for a few weeks. The number one thing to remember is to do not touch your hair with your hands. Touching your hair makes it greasy, and get the look of being dirty a lot faster. One thing that I did was keep my hair braided down my back, that kept it looking clean and fresh. If your hair does starting getting a little oily looking then take a hair dryer, flip your hair over and use the heat to provide fullness to it. The fuller your hair the less dirty it will look. I do not think for two weeks you should really have a problem. Hope things work out for you!

It does work, honestly!
If you can get over the first couple of weeks it is really worth it. Think of all that money you wash down the plughole!
People with hair that they thought was poker straight found their hair had a natural curl and it is so much easier to style.
Don't hate what you are not prepared to try; oh and by the way nits etc are attracted to newly washed hair, so you are more likely to get them if you are a daily shampoo kinda girl or guy!

Yes, it does clean and condition itself naturally leaving beautiful hair! They did a test on tv a few years ago. A woman with long hair wrapped it up in a turban and kept it like that for I think 6 weeks, at first she said it went really greasy and started to smell and her scalp itched. At the end of the test her hair had no smell and looked clean and beautifully conditioned!

I tried it when I was a teenager, because someone told me this, but I left it for 8 weeks. It was okay for the first ten days, then it started to feel yucky and itchy. After about 3 weeks it looked really skanky and itched like hell. Weeks four and five looked just as bad, not so itchy, but really smelly, no one would sit next to me at school. By six weeks, it didnt itch at all and didnt look too bad, was still a bit stinky. By 8 weeks my hair was glossy, silky and didnt smell any more and looked even better when I washed it.
I wouldnt do it again though.

I tried it but the longest I went was a week even though i stuck my hair on my head I felt like a right minger. But this mate of mine had a baby and said she just didnt have time to wash her hair and so left it and noticed that it was getting shiner and healthier all by itself she said she started to notice after 4 weeks she hasn't used shampoo on her hair since and she always gets complements everywhere she goes! I think i may leave it for when Ive had kids!!

Hair does not clean itself, its not like a self cleaning oven and id think that after 6 weeks of no cleaning its gonna be greasy and knotted and tangled even if you use a comb or brush lets just keep it clean so if you go my i dont have to shake my head at ya

It wouldn't be worth the risk, it's just an old wives' tale which I can't say I've known anyone to try...
You could get it really screwed up like that, I know they didn't wash it in the old days and they can't have been that bad but I guess if it gets used to shampoo and stuff it could get screwed... If I don't wash every day, my hair doesn't get as greasy as it would if I washed every day... I guess hair gets used to things and you shouldn't really take that risk...

Please get a scientific source to verify facts before believing them like some sort of gullible 11 year old. Even if your hair did "self-clean" after six weeks, the number of insect parasites you'd have living in your hair would mean that your scalp would need to "self-clean" along with it.
