I want to get a gym membership and I don't know if I should go to 24 hr fitness, Balleys, Curves. Who likes their gym?? Did you also get a personal trainer too, and did they help any??

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.

On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.

Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

The best gym is supposed to be one that's closest to your home (within 10 minutes). Statistic show that 99% of people who don't go to the gym don't go because it's too far.
Other than that, I've had several people compliment 24 and curves, no one complimented Balley's.
The people who went to the 24 gym still have their membership whereas the friends who were at Curves stopped their memberships after 2 years. I recommend you ask for a guest pass and try all of these gyms for a week. Then you'll see which ones suit you.

I went to 24 Hour for a long time and I like it. It has pretty much everything you need. They have deals all the time too, so hold out for one where you don't have to pay a start-up fee. Bally's has better group classes and curves gets boring after awhile. I would go with 24-hour. I paid about $30 a month.

Best thing to do is visit each of your local gyms/fitness centers and ask for a free 1-day pass. That'll give you an opportunity to check each place out. They'll probably have someone give you a tour and the standard sales pitch, but at least you'll know what you're getting and how much you'll be paying for it...
