i must be the only one on the face of the earth on effexor XR and have had no problems first off you should be discussing geting off of this med with your dr and starting something else in its place so you wont have withdrawl effects from what i have seen here in the last 3 months everyone is stopping this med cold turkey without the advice from thier dr and having vicious side effects from stopping effexor XR if this drug is causing so many ppl so many problems why are you even starting this in the first place knowing what you do and why would you go off of this cold turkey knowing it will cause problems. talk to your dr about stopping this but not before you have a backup waiting in the mean time

Hi Ted. I know exactly how you feel, because I was in this situation as well. I took Effexor Xr too, ick. That medicine was awful. Anyway, I had to tell my doctor to take me off of it, because it had horrible side affects and was making my depression worse. please don't come off of it, cold turkey...you will feel awful and sick. withdrawal is terrible. i suggest u follow the advice of your doctor. your doctor will slowly wean u off of this drug....so u won't have to suffer from a bad withdrawal.

i am taking effexor now, and i have been asking my dr. when would be the right time to come off it, he said in about 6mths and then they would analyze my depression status, if i go back to being depressed, they i go back on it or on another med

ur post just scared me, i did some research on effexor before taking it, and learnt that it has the least or no S/E when getting off it.
As everyone said, don't quit cold turkey, talk to ur doc first. I hope that it works out for you but please let me know how it went:

Like the people that anwered this before me yes I was on that crap to. My doc yanked it from me because it was contor-dickting my other meds. Be sure that when youcome off of the stuff that you have an artinuary of things to do to keep you busy for the first three days. or you will go nuts. and watch out for the room tring to crawl when you lay down.

If you suffer from depression.. why go off the depression meds
you need to discuss this with your psychiatrist before doing anything

effexor has horrible withdrawal symptoms. i quit taking it a few years ago and had to white knuckle it for a few days. never had another symptom since and i've even gotten over my depression. if you're going to quit taking it, take a few days off because you're gonna feel like crap.

be sure you are discussing this with your dr. don't just stop cold turkey. this should be a gradual process and it may be a sign that you actually need the meds.
