In most cases, if it is your first offense, you will get probation and directed to pay restitution. Depending on the amount you may get minimal Jail Time. I know a man who embelzzled 2 million from his company, and he got 2 years in prison and was out in 75 days.

Now if it was coupled with forgery or some other additional felony then you could receive 5 to 10 years.

However nowadays, unless it is a high profile case, people get probation and thats about it. Not to mention a lot of companies are no longer calling the police in on these cases. Most of the time if they do and the judge does not force the defendant to pay restitution, the company loses all around. What companies are doing now is to sue the person in civil court for repayment.

Someone earlier said it was a federal offense. It is only if you embezzle from a federal institution, for example a federal bank. Ordinarily it is not a fed crime. It is a state crime.

Generally federal jail time if it is a felony which it likely will be and lose of license to practice, repayment at the loss of all you own and possibly illegal activity against that person depending on who they stole from.
