This is a requirement for naturalization: "send evidence that you continued to live, work, and/or keep ties to the United States, such as:
1. An IRS tax return “transcript” or an IRS-certified tax return listing tax information for the last 5 years"

Is it possible to get this & how?

At the very least you will want to see a CPA, quite possibly a tax attorney. Talk to a CPA first, they are cheaper.

I think that you should also talk to an attorney specializing in immigration. What the INS is asking for is proof that you actually want to live in the US and take a full part in being a responsible citizen. It doesn't look like you have been doing that and in the present climate, they may have a lot of questions for you.

As atax professional, this is the first time I have ever had to suggest that someone see an attorney. If you have kept good records, you may be able to go ahead and file the necessary returns, which you should do. But you need to, at minimum, ask the attorney handling your naturalization some of these questions, and then get with a tax advisor experienced in these issues - and be sure to ask that question before you make an appointment, and especially before you pay anyone.

I didn't give my most detailed or researched answer here because I have one question - you're living here, driving on the roads, going to concerts in the stadiums, having the benefit of a certain amount of freedoms because you are in the US. Is there some reason you didn't feel you needed to pay taxes like the rest of us? I'm very sorry if you've not been required to file or something, and I've just spouted off to a completely innocent legal person, but it sounds to me like you got yourself into this mess. Again, I sincerely apologize if this is not the case.

You should see a CPA to advise you at this time. You did not give enough information for me to answer your question. There are too many issues involved here. There are State Taxes as well as Federal and a lot of other taxes that go along with income tax.

Social Security is one of them. Most tax forms list

Self Employed as an option when you fill out a form.
If you insist on doing this yourself, you can find any form you need if you go to U.S. Government.com.
You can also find State forms on the government website. Even the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Take my advice, See A CPA. Preferably a smaller office rather than one of those assembly lines.

You will Need a 1099 form if you are self employed. That form is for individual contractors, etc.

Good Luck

You can file taxes for years past with the help of a CPA or a tax attorney.
