In a rural area it would be at least $350, in a suburban or urban area at least $500. That is for as basic as basic can be. To get a beautiful cake for less you can do what my friend did. She went to Walmart (you can also do this at a supermarket) and ordered a sheet cake, half a sheet cake, quarter of a sheet cake, and eighth of a sheet cake. Then she got the cake supports online and placed one cake on top of the other on top of the other. To decorate she used fresh flowers, but they offered to make icing flowers for her. The cake looked amazing and tasted great! What was great was that she was able to have 4 different kinds of cake and not have to pay an arm and a leg for it.

Wedding cakes can run $3 to 5 (or even higher) per person. An alternative to going to someone who is specifically a "wedding cake" designer is to locate a local culinary institute or bakery. Also, there is nothing that says that the entire display cake is edible. One layer is edible (usually the bottom layer) and sheet cakes with similar frosting and decoration are cut and served to the guests. The guests are still getting the great taste of the cake without your taking out a second mortgage. The key is to talk to the baker. Tell him/her what your budget is and they can help. They are in an industry that is dominated by word of mouth.

Usually it's around $2.50 - $3.00 per slice... BUT then you have to add on all the extra details and doo-dads! If you want sugared fruit, fondant and chocolate sculptures (ha-ha), then the price will keep getting higher and higher.
However, I think you should be able to get a very beautiful (and tasty) cake for 200 people for $500. (Mine cost almost exactly that much -- I only planned on 100 or so people, but the cake got a bit bigger... and was technically big enough to feed about 175! I chose some "special" extras as well... such as sugar roses and some intricate icing designs with our monogram.)

Depends where you are. I went to a wedding in PA, and the wedding cake for 180 guests was about $400. In SF, many of my friends mentioned that their wedding cake was anywhere between $600 to $2500 for about 150-200 guests.

I had a wedding for 500 hundred and my brides maid had individual doll baby cake made for them and I only paid $350.00 and it was delicious and the most beautful cake I had ever seen. The only catch was that it was made by a family friend.!!! Hope I was of some help...Good luck

I am paying $2.75 pp for a 225 person wedding (approx). So I would imagine that's a pretty reasonable amount to pay.

My guess would be $700 and up, depending on how ornate you want it to be. I was fortunate to marry a pastry chef and he made our wedding cake. It was 5-tiers and exquisite - he said if we were having someone else make it, it would've cost easily over $1,000 - and that was for 135 guests. He told me I could repay him in kisses. :)

You could get one for as low as 500 if you shop around the other end is just about limitless. I'd stay within 650-850 range (just to make sure they use real ingredients :)

it usually ranges from 4-5 dollars per person you want to serve. and also extra for fondant or any other type of decor.
