Here is a fascinating article, which explains the differences.
Definition of the Alaskan husky is based on performance, not looks. They are not household pets..One thing that surprised me, is that They should never weigh more than 55 pounds. This article contains short interviews with Iditarod racers...

So far, none f your answers have been correct..unless you were referring to Malamutes, not AK Huskies.

Any husky lover will want to read this!

My sister bought 9 retired Iditarod racers, so I was especially interested..

Alaskan Huskies are usually somewhat largerand leaner than Siberian Huskies. Siberians often have blue or any combination of blue and brown eyes, where as Alaskan Huskies often have brown eyes.
Alaskan Huskies are primarily bred as working dogs. They have greater endurance in sled racing than Siberian Huskies.
Also the Alaskan Husky is also different from the Alaskan Malamute. The Alaskan Husky is a pedigreed dog, meaning that breeding is done carefully and the parents and lineage is known. Although they are not a true purebred because they are crossed with other northern and arctic breeds to produce the best working dogs possible. Many of the dogs that are used for sled work and competition pulling teams are these mixed sled dogs.

There is no Alaskan Husky. I think you mean Alaskan Malamute. Both are dogs that were bred to survive in extreme cold and even look a little similar but there are a few differences.

1. An Alaskan Malamute is larger and heavier than a husky.
2. An Alaskan Malamute's breed standard states that their eyes have to be brown. A Siberian Husky can have blue eyes. Now you will have alaskan malamutes with blue eyes, but they do not conform to the breed standard and cannot be shown.
3. Both animals were sled dogs. Siberian huskies originated in Siberia to carry lighter weights at moderate speeds and in larger teams. Alaskan Malamutes were used for heavier weights at slower speeds with smaller teams of fewer dogs.
4. Breeders also say that there are slight temperamental differences. Though both breeds are affectionate and beautiful, a Siberian does better with other dogs because they have a better honed pack mentality. Malamutes are very same sex aggressive. Malamutes are also, because of their larger size a little more stubborn and calmer than a Siberian Husky.

The similarities are however that both these beautiful dogs are affectionate but independent, beautiful but never to be trusted off leash and happiest when they are given vigorous exercise.

It is alsakan husky, siberian husky and the Alaskan malamute. Malamute are taller, broader and can be more of an A $$ where as the sibrian husky and alaskan huskies are more playful and energetic and less likely to mistake your children as small game.

Siberian huskies are thicker down the length of their body than the alaskan which seems to have a sleeker look. Siberian huskies are the ones with the blue eyes or one blue eye the others have brown.

Siberian Husky is recognized by the AKC, UCK, CKC , APRI or other registeries as a breed of dog.

The Alaskan Husky is not recognized by the AKC or any other breed registeries.

The Alaskan Husky is not so much a breed of dog as it is a type or a category. It falls short of being a breed in that there is no preferred type and no restriction as to ancestry; it is defined only by its purpose, which is that of a highly efficient sled dog.

Alaskan Huskies are usually a bit larger than the Siberian Husky and have a leaner build.

Siberian Huskies usually have blue or any combo of blue, brown or hazel like eyes where as the Alaskan Husky often has brown eyes.

Just a few facts, hope it helps.

A Siberian husky is considered a medium sized dog and the Alaskan Husky is a large size dog. The Alaskan husky is not a registered dog and is not usually seen as a pet. It is usually seen as pet to mushers (hence the name Alaskan). They both come from the Northern Heritage, except the Alaskan Husky is cross bred with more breeds. Probably the most noticable difference between the two is the Alaskan's "gay tail"
