I am fasting during the month of Ramadan and would like some tips on curving my cravings during daylight. I have never fast before, so what do you suggest I do when I began to feel hungry or light headed?

Keep your activity to a minimum, don't exert yourself, and get plenty of sleep. And eat as much as you want as soon as the Sun goes down. In fact, try to shift your daily schedule as late as you can, spreading out eating during the evening will probably help.

An even better option would be converting to atheism.

You really can't do anything like they are suggesting, you can't drink water or even chew gum. Nothing!!! This is where you will use the strength and faith inside yourself to sustain until sunset and then you can eat. Most people don't realize that Ramadan is nothing to the mouth. But I would suggest that you get up early before sunrise and eat a big healthy breakfast, that will help you until sunset. Good Luck! I will be doing the same thing! Don't worry you at least will feel better after wards. You will feel more spiritual and stronger after the first couple days, it gets easier by the end of the month you will feel more in touch with Allah. You will do great in'shallah!

Surely you have instructions in the Koran or from your religious leaders on how to practise the fast.
You are not actually fasting for the month of Ramadan-you are fasting during DAYLIGHT-you actually feast abundantly at night time.Observe your cravings and think of children and other people in this world who ALWAYS feel this hunger. Ramadan is NOT about YOU-it's about loving kindness towards others, isn't it? If it is too difficult for you to fast you can give generously to charity instead-eg Afghani women's welfare and education.

drink water moderately, especially if you're working where you can't frequently use the restroom because drinking water on an empty stomach will make you pee a lot.

Nothing, you cannot do nothing, if you stick to your religious believes that's all you can do, otherwise you break the commitment to your religion. But up with the side effects of putting your body through this kind of abuse...
