I'll admit, I think religious beliefs are incredibly stupid and pointless, but I understand why people choose to believe in this stuff (my theory is fear of death/the unknown, but that's a different question). Some christians seem incapable of comprehending the atheist position.

To the person who said "just b/c" is not reasonable proof, what's your proof there is a god? The bible?

Neither side has proof. The difference is christians make up ridiculous stories for their "proof" of god, while atheists choose not to.

Here are my thoughts, let me know what you think:

I am a Christian and have a firm belief in God. I recognize that not all share my belief and I respect that. I have plenty of evidence to support my beliefs. I do not blindly follow those who went before me, nor those around me. I have firmly convinced myself that there is a Creater who is loving.

However, I do tend to give less respect to atheisists as opposed to agnostics. I also do not agree with those who blindly believe in God, merely because they were brought up that way. I have always found a certain quotation to be very insightful on this topic. It was made by Clarence Darrow when he was on trial for being an agnostic.

"I do not consider it an insult, but rather a compliment to be called an agnostic. I do not pretend to know where many ignorant men are sure -- that is all that agnosticism means." - Clarence Darrow

I believe this sums it up quite well. If all were to truely sit down and think about these things, then they have earned my respect. I honestly believe that they will conclude there is a Supreme Being, but if they have honestly considered such matters and do not reach that conclusion, I shall treat them with the utmost respect. They have done far more than the majority of the world.

As a Christian, I have no problem with people choosing athiesm. What I often do find myself responding to is the insults aimed at us because of our beliefs. When someone says something hurtful, even if it's someone that really doesn't affect your life, you'll most often find yourself responding in some way. There's a lot of implications made in this forum suggesting that believers are foolish, uneducated people, and that's simply not true.

I used to be an athiest. I used to hold similar views. I have since encountered something (Some One) that has changed my life. I can't ignore that. I understand that there are people that haven't encountered this experience in their life. I understand that there are some that don't want to.

But, having lived life for thirty or more years, I don't understand how some people feel, just because they haven't experienced something, that the obvious something other people are experiencing is then false, or silly, or unintelligent. There are things in your life that I've never experienced. I have every right to not believe in those experiences that you had, but I have not reason or right to say that you are less of a person for believing in them.

I'll admit, I think atheist beliefs are incredibly stupid and pointless, but I understand why people choose to believe in this stuff (my theory is that they are unwilling to accept their responsibility to a higher power than themselves, but that's a different question). Some atheists seem incapable of comprehending the Christian position.

I always hate it when someone parrots a question back as the answer, but in this case, it does seem the only appropriate response.

I may not agree with atheism but I wouldn't even dream of being ugly to anyone who is an atheist. It flies in the face of everything my Savior came to earth for. Of all the people He encountered on this earth, the only people he had zero tolerance for were early day Christians (Pharisees, as named). I understand that completely. A mouthy, ugly, in-your-face Christian will piss me off quicker than any Atheist could ever dream of doing.

I am in recovery, and I sit in AA meetings amongst all kinds of religious beliefs and non-beliefs out there. It never ceases to amaze me how if the crowd cant find anything else to agree on, they will always agree that they have an overall disdain for the Christian in the room.

So, to answer your question, I don't have a hard time with Atheism at all. I pray for you, but I don't have a hard time with you personally.

The people on this site are not true atheist. The meaning of Atheist is: One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods. So if they do not believe in God then why are they here trying to disprove something they do not believe in. Why do they care if we believe. This site is titled Religion& Spirituality which is not part of athiest. A true atheist would not be in this forum cause they would not want to hear what a true believer has to say. I do not have a hard time with them, but those who come to this site is not Atheist. I think they are seeking for truth cause they are unhappy in there life.

Faith is accepting what you cannot see because you have other forms of proof. Atheism involves dismissing all possibilities without proof, or despite it. My theory is that you either fear what you do not understand, or you realize that accepting it means you can no longer live for yourself.

But really the thing you most fail to see is that we are not trying to brainwash anyone; we don't get any special prize, like a toaster oven for converting anyone. The reason we are trying to spread the word is because God wants all people to have the opportunity to stand before Him on judgment day, and we want what God wants for His people.

Religion is something that is soley based on faith. Faith and a spiritual relationship with a higher being. Both of which are things that can not be seen or touched but felt. It is hard for Christians to deal with a different point of view because they feel as though this spiritual awareness is something that everyone is born with. If you sit there and try to tell them there is no God they cannot comprehend how you ar enot capable of feeling God and knowing God.

No one can live independently of Christ. Let Christ be the only guy in your life! Atheism is but a theory, you will be much richer if you carry around in your heart the image of Christ burning and bleeding to death so that people like us can have the freedom to say what we want and snuff out all non-believers. Atheist have no heaven to go to. Woudn't you want to go to a Christian heaven and always be in presence of other Christians constantly praying and loving one another. God Bless your soul and all American souls in general.

I disagree.!.!. But I would not choose to tell you are wrong.
Do you see my point. First I don't care what you believe. 2nd I would never mention religion unless I wanted to be close friends or for dating. Most of atheism discussions are like yours. POINTLESS.
There is a famous quot:
Don't ask & Don't tell WHO REALY CARES.But don't jam it in our face.Rember also it the atheist (a small number) who take to the law to record 'offense' and change our traditions and cultures.
