I was told that u get college credits for going to basic training and tech school. what kind of credits are those and where do they go?

Most military schools have college course equivalents. There is a guide that schools may use to grant college credit for those schools. The schools are not obligated to accept them at all, but most do.

For my Basic and AIT, I received 8 semester hours. As I stayed in the military, I received more credit for other advanced schools, so that after I left the military after 14 years of service, I had 30 semester hours, not including college classes that I took while in.

I received 60 some odd college credit hours from basic and tech school toward an AAS degree through the CCAF (Community College of the Air Force). I need to take math, english, humanities and speech classes to complete my degree. The number of credit hours dependes on the length of your tech school.

My friend in the Air Force got 15 college credits for BMTand Tech school. So yes you do credits BUT most of those are probably worth next to nothing at most colleges.

It depends on the school. Of the 36 credits that the transcripts the Navy gave me my University only would accept 4 of them.
