know black is "for" funerals... and I bought this super cute Springy white halter dress with pink and green flowers, but I cannot find the right shade of pink or green shoes to match and that stresses me out! I know I'm not supposed to wear white shoes after Labor Day, true or just a myth? so then I fell back on this adorable short strapless black dress I have to accessorize with red shoes, red bracelets, etc... is that off limits as well?! I guess I could go shop for something else... but I'm trying to be frugal! Thanks

No. You must wear white. Black is an invitation for the devil.

I don't see a problem with wearing black to a wedding. I just did a few weeks ago actually. Black is a formal color and most weddings are formal occasions.
Now as for the white shoes after labor day. Look out for Serial Mom if you choose to do this.

skip the pink and green springy halter dress and the white shoes...it is not spring or summer but FALL
go with the black dress and shoes(not red) and wear gold or silver accessories then have some sort of wrap in a fall color to wear for the ceremony part then remove for later if it is not too cold

White is no longer a no no after Labor Day. Black is perfectly fine as long as you do not go to short with the dress. Since it is before 6:00 P. M.

Yes, you can wear black to a wedding. There is nothing wrong with that however, you should not wear white shoes after labor day because that is the official end of summer and white shoes are restricted to the summer. You can wear cream or off white, that is okay. Good luck!

A couple of thoughts-
I'm hoping the dress is not primarily white, and that the flowers take up a lot of space. You should never wear white to someone else's wedding.
A LOT of people wear black to weddings. I personally hate it. I definitely wouldn't wear it if it is a daytime wedding. If it is in the evening, it's not too bad.
And I believe you can wear white shoes whenever you want. I do!

Black to a wedding is appropriate. That rule is out the window and it's quite obvious considering the number of brides that choose black as their bridemaid's dress color (me included!). I think black is elegant. And accessorized with red - that's just beautiful!!!
As for the white shoes, I would try to stray away from that. Off-white is okay (or a winter white) but the difference is awfully tough to see!). I wouldn't shoot for the white shoes. Reserve all of the white for the bride.

Black is fine for a wedding. The red shoes and jewlery will punch it up a bit.
As for the white shoes, you can wear white shoes after labor day. I thought it was just white pants after labor day are a no no.
I say wear what you feel great in. Who really cares about what season it is!

Black is fine to wear to a wedding as long as you arent the one getting married. By the looks of it though you might be fight ing all the guys off of you. Wear what makes you feel good and if anyone has a problem that is to bad. Have Fun. As for the shoes no one cares.

The style experts on TLC's "What Not To Wear" say that not waearing white after Labor Day is entirely a myth.
I highly recommend that you don't wear black to the wedding, unless you have confirmation that it is a black & white event...These usually are evening, formal events, so I'm guessing this wedding won't fall into that category.

now im not a fashion expert but many of my friends are. they say that the whole white thing doesnt matter anymore BUT if you describe your dress as springy then i probably wouldnt wear it. also if it is a night wedding then it is more formal so you are allowed/supposed to wear black. my friend went to a wedding and she actually said that many people (including herself) were wearing black.
i like the black with red idea :)
i think it all depends on the time of the wedding
