The reason that I need to do this is because I have degenerative disks in my lower back and having the extra weight is making them break down faster plus giving me lots of back pain. Also is making me down and self cautious. Please help!

Hi, Well first you need some motivation, rather its threw a friend or just waking up tired of looking the way you feel. You need to start eating lots of veggies(celery, carots, letuce, ect.), watch ur sugar intake. Dont eat to many fruits, a lil bit is okay. Break your three regular meals into about 5 or 6 small snacks a day. Try not to eat after 6pm. Get your self on a scheduel, that will help out a lot. Try to stay away from red meats & eat more of chicken and fish. Watch your salt intake it causes you to swell up and hold fluids. Dont drink anymore sodas, & drink nothing but water. If you can keep this up for about 2 to 3 weeks you will watch your self loose inches. Please believe me, I am a good witness. it worked well for me.

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.

On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.

Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

People are so ignorant on here. If you "don't" eat, you'll never lose weight. Our body's are designed to eat and burn off the calories.
The reason why you have extra weight is most and likely because you only eat 2 - 3 meals a day and in order to build your metabolism up, you need to eat 6 small meals a day so that your body doesn't hold on to those calories that give you those extra pounds you don't need.
I know from personal experience and you'll be shocked to find that you will lose weight within the first week you start eating in small portions. I couldn't believe it was working for me and I wasn't hungry at all. Sometimes, you even have to force yourself to eat even when you're not hungry. I lost about 6 pounds within a week and a half and I have read that the bigger you are the faster the weight will come off!

Go on the biggest loser web site and get their diet plans and get busy on a cardio plan. Get to a gym and talk to a trainer and get going. The first day is so hard, but after that it gets so much easier, and you will see results. It is a life style change, but it probably won't happen fast. Nothing happens over night, but in a month you will see results! Just take it easy on the weight training, i have disk problens and started out with just 10 lbs. so not to cause back pain. Increase in increments of five or ten pounds. Isn't it hard, you have problems in the back because of the weight, but the pain keeps it from coming off. Catch 22!!
Good luck, get stubborn, I did and it has worked!! I feel for you, and just know that others are out here rooting for you!! You can do it i know you can!

im not sure if this will work for you because its pysical work but
if you are wanting to lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time. Reduce your calorie intake to no more than 900 a day for about 2 weeks . And exercise 30 mins of cardio with sweatsuits on to help get a major sweat going on, then tone for another 30 7 days a week. and pilates is great for women. or weight traiining for guys. I lost 30 lbs in a month doing this. Then you typically can go back to your normal life style, of course limit to about 2000 calories a day anyways, and make sure you continue to exercise or else our metabolism will shoot way down and you will gain on more than you lost. But this works i swear by it, its what celebrities do b4 a big event and i did it and it works wonders. Good luck!
Also NO SODA!!! NO JUICE!!! just water water water and green tea with your breakfast!! You will feel with all the water weight like nothing is going on for awhile but that water litteraly washes the fats and toxics out of your body thats why it is important to get a heavy sweat going on during exercise. and keep the sweat running for at least 20 minutes.

Exercise may not be a good thing for you if you have disks breaking down in your back. I recommend first you get blood work done to see how it's doing, then determine a diet plan. I would recommend Atkins because you don't HAVE to exercise to lose weight with it. You can lose about ten pounds in two weeks and then about a pound or so a week afterward. Some people freak out about Atkins, but you reduce your calorie intake with Atkins because you are hardly ever hungry and sometimes have to remember to eat. I've seen great success with Atkins and have never seen great success with low calorie because with the low calorie you are ALWAYS hungry and absolutely have to exercise. Plus, protein builds muscle and your body sounds like it needs it. If your doctor says the okay for exercise you may try a low impact cardio + muscle building program such as the one they offer at Curves if you have one in your area.

Eat slowly. Sometimes you have to rush your food down because you're late for work or late for an appointment, but if you eat slowly you will enjoy the food more, you will feel a little more satisfied. If you eat too quickly your body doesn't have time to send you the message that you're full and you end up eating more.

Take a shower or bath when a food craving strikes. It will relax you, and keep your whole body occupied and out of trouble (i.e., the kitchen) until the craving fades. Or you could phone a talkative friend when a food craving strikes. Call from a corded phone outside the kitchen, and stay on until the craving fades.

purchase some super high fiber cereal like "kashi" brand and have a bowl for breakfast and your mid afternoon snack (this will cleans your digestive systems which will result in instant weight loss... it's only a few lbs but you'll feel a lot better).

eat lots of fruits and veggies and lean protein like skinless chicken and fish, and drink tons of water.

before starting any exercise regimine consult your MD or chiropractor... yoga or pilates would be a good option for you as it will build strength, endurance in your whole body without running or jumping or anything like that.

keep your calorie intake at about 1400 to 1600 calories a day... if you go any lower your metabolism and digestive system will slow down and cause you to stop losing weight and even damage your organs.

i have degenerative disks in my neck and yoga and pilates have been wonderful to keep me strong and flexible, there are still days when i can barely turn my head so i know how painful it can be just to get out of bed each day... also i have been a chiropractic assistant for a few years and without chiropractic care i don't know how i'd be able to live an active life.

good luck and good for your for choosing a healthier lifestyle, your quality of life will improve so much!

Diet is extremely important. To slim your body you must:

Burn more calories than you eat.

Cut your fat intake.

Eat three cups of fat free low cal yogurt a day (make sure it has live cultures in it) and pineapples. This helps you break down your food.

Do 30 - 45 min. of aerobic exercise a day (preferably before you eat in the morning). This will attack the fat. Swimming and cycling are low impact which is what you need.

Do 20 min of weight training three times a week. This will build lean muscle which will in turn burn fat.

Protect your back at all times. Pull your belly button into your spine and up. This will help protect your back. Do proper crunches, reverse crunches and oblique work. No sit ups, they are bad for your back.

I lost 40 lbs in two months and have kept it off for two more months doing this. I also took my body fat % from 30% to 14%

Be Blessed

The fastest way to lose weight is to fast (do without eating). But that won't be beneficial to you because your body loses calcium, women especially, and you need that calcium for your bones.

The next fastest way to lose weight is to eat primarily vegetables and go really careful with the fats and oils that we often use to dress dull greens with a dose of flavor. Part of what that strategy does is diminishes the fats and proteins. Fats and proteins are the biggest contributors to your weight (possibly along with some water retention, which paradoxically is often cured by drinking more water and cutting down on the salt). You don't want to completely avoid proteins (then your body will be leaching out muscle mass, some of which is what makes your heart beat and some of which is what holds those back bones in place), but most proteins can be built from combinations of things like beans and rice or peanuts/peanut butter, etc. You will want to exercise. There will be some muscle build-up, though in women their estrogen doesn't encourage the same kind of build-up that androgens do to men. The biggest thing in exercise, however, is that you accelerate the metabolism, although that benefit is only for a little while, so periodically do some standing and stretching things to sort of keep the body thinking activity. With a primarily veggie diet you will need to eat more often, but without the meats and fats the foods you are eating will be less nutrient dense, so pound-for-pound, you will need more vegetable food more often in order to match the big metabolic leaps of meals with meats and fats, three or four hours pass, then meals with meats and fats, three or four hours pass, then meals with meats and fats cycle. You may need to picture yourself as a cow or a goat and graze on veggies all day, or scatter such snacks every hour or two.

Exercise will help keep the muscles in your back firm to hold the bones in place, but you will need to adjust your posture to help. You will need to adjust your diet with supplements for calcium as well. Another component that helps all of those things work right is water. With exercise you sweat, men obviously more than women, and that works mechanisms of all sorts. Water is important to keep the fluids balanced because that is what your body uses as the main hydraulics--blood plasma is mostly water. With all that water, it will work your kidneys, but during all that it will be carrying away salts--calcium is a salt, it sits on the chemical element tables right next to sodium which is what we commonly think of as a salt. With all that water, it also carries foods, including the replacement dietary or supplemental calcium to the bones to replace that which is lost. You will need a lot of water. See a dietician to maximize diet and methods to make sure your body is getting enough to work with, but enough less that the body begins to dump body mass. Good luck.
