People are healed at the alter and act like they are in a trance? I honestly do not know, or is this just what I see in movies??

No. An evangelist is someone who preaches the gospel to those who don't know it. It has nothing to do with their denomination. You're referring to pentecostals or charismatics or "holiness" people.

A good example of an evangelist is Billy Graham. An evangelist is someone who teaches/preaches the Good News of Jesus Christ.
An evangelical is someone who believes in the Bible and follows Christ's commandment to share the Gospel with everyone.

An evangelist just spreads the news of Jesus Christ much like Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. They are called the evangelists or apostles that wrote the gospels.

the word of God can save without the sensationalism and experience and in a quiet moment
the wild emotions and experiences can be distractions from the real thing... like the frosting on the cake... not the meat... and can even give you a tummy ache if you focus only on dessert and never eat your veggies
