I rent with a guy and a girl and the guy would shave his stubble and then leave the hair on the floor every time (claiming he didn't notice and thought his shaver magically sucked it all up!). When I asked him to clean it up his girlfriend called me pathetic. Am I wrong in thinking that it's common courtesy to clean this sort of thing up straight away?

You are not wrong or pathetic about this. It IS common courtesy to clean such things up after oneself and it is very inconsiderate to just leave it on the floor when there are others sharing the same bathroom, not to mention the mess it makes when it spreads around after you step in it. Such things should be cleaned up right away.

Incidentally, most landlords of decent abodes tend not to lease out their property to students or fresh graduates for the reason of finance and lack of ability and maturity to maintain the dwelling. This only reaffirms the notion of simple proprietary and maturity lacking in children whose parents habitually pick up after them. Of similar in characteristic as a source of annoyance with well heeled ladies, is the act of not putting down the toilet seat. Naturally, it does not help if everybody contributes to create a social mess.

"Common courtesy" are mostly time tested acts of courtesy when living in the commons, and thus recommended to be practised as common place rather than the exception, in the interest of consideration of another and to maintain the peace. However, in the interest of a presumably short term occupancy, it may be better to preserve the peace until a better alternative shows up.

common courtesy...clean up after yourself and if you don't then I will nag you so if you don't like nagging...clean up...just "police" the area when you are finished and leaving...and I have heard that one about I though the shaver collected them...some are in the shaver but not all and I wonder if the shave is not supposed to get them and the operator is supposed to clean that too

No, you are not wrong. But if they dont want to keep clean and live decently then maybe it's time to weigh your options. Leave, or ask them to leave. Are they ok when it comes to paying their share? You might have to compromise accepting how they are if you dont have an option. Peace.

I think his girlfriend is pathetic for saying that - tell her to clean up after her man! Just kidding...it's not wrong of you to expect him to clean up after himself - maybe look to move if he doesn't start picking up after himself....what a slob!
