Any puppy that is only a few months old will go to the bathroom many times during the day. Once they get to six months old they can hold it in for longer and then even longer each month after that. My puppy is 10 months old and she stays home pretty much 8-9 hours a day sometimes. She doesnt go to the bathroom in the house ever. As long as its solid poop it is fine.

Their hearts race like lab rats when they are puppies and so they have a fast metabolism, plus the fact that they dont have full control over there muscles yet so its hard to hold it (ever see them run, its pretty clumsy). It also takes less food and water to fill their smaller organs when they are pups.

I would defenitly use Iams puppy food, puppy treats and carrots. Anything else you give a pup will probably come out needing a lot of paper towels to clean.

Unfortunately dachshunds are stubborn dogs and hard to potty train. My dachshunds pees anytime she sees anyone new and she is 11 mos old. Try limiting her food and water intake to certain times of the day. Just watch her a few minutes after she eats and drinks and let her outside. I use Science Diet for puppies for my dachshund and doesn't upset her stomach like other dog foods. Might want to try crate training, it really works great. Good luck.

After 4 years with my wiener dog, I have come to the conclusion that dachshunds are capable of expelling more than they eat. I feed her 2 cups of Science Diet every day, and I swear she poops 4 cups a day. Sometimes, they are so big, I think she's giving birth! Seriously, though, give it time. Do crate training and get her on a regular potty-time schedule. However much she poops as she gets older, she will learn to do it outside. Good luck.

Puppies poop between 4 and 10 times a day. She is just a few months old and cannot hold it for very long. The older she gets the longer she will be able to hold it, and thus less she will poop a day. Think about it....if you wanted to you could probably push something out every couple of hours too.

What's more important is the type of poop she is giving out...it should be fairly thick and even colored. Also check her poop for worms (little rice like looking things)

The food you are probably feeding her is a cheaper brand, say Purina for puppies.

Use Iams or check out your local pet store for foods that do not contain the cereal fillers that the cheaper brands use.

you will notice fewer stools (and they will be smaller and smell better too!) in just a couple of days

1st off she is still a baby. Now what are you feeding her?
The better foods like: Iams & Science diet for puppies...you get less stools. B/c the body utilizes the food better than cheaper foods.
Also the better foods, you can feed her less of. Her over all health will be better w/better foods.

depends on how much you are feeding her, or if she is being nosey and finding things in the house to snack on. normally feeding her 2 times a day is plenty for her size a half of cup of food is plenty , it will also helpl if you are trying to potty train her, make sure that it is a high quality food you are feeding her , b/c doxies can have skin problems

Pammie is correct--depends on what brand of food you are feeding her & yes, the better brands are far better & her stools will be better. Consider submitting a stool sample to your vet--the vet should be able to make recommendations for you.

Cheap food? Cheap food = filler = more waste.

What are you feeding her? Different foods have more waste than others.
