Call the lawyer and ask to set up a payment arrangement for the account. If you can pay the whole thing now, great. If you would find it more comfortable to pay part now, part over the next month or so, they'll probably work with that. They may even work with a month payment lower than you'd think.
If they say they want everything now or it goes to court then either send the "everything now" or else go to court, explain why you couldn't pay "everything now", and chances are a payment plan would be set up for you.

Contact the Dell Financing department. They may be able to take it out of the collection department. Explain the situation and start making payments in good faith. If you ever find yourself in dire straights again, contact your debtors before it goes past due. They are more willing to work with you then.

Pay it. The sooner the better. Explain your situation, take the credit hit, pay the account and don't overspend again.
You will probably end up paying more than the actual account, and you will probably need to pay the entire amount up front, but get it paid off as soon as possible.
You may also need to look into outside financing if you aren't able to pay it off in time to satisfy the collection agency.
