First watch for chewing, she is a retriever and a puppy, so anything that she can get in her mouth she will put there, so try to break her of that now. Goldens are excellent dogs, but they are very very active puppies, so be prepared to give her lots of exercise, but don't over do it. Teach her to play fetch. There is nothing a retriever loves more than to retrieve. Put her on a long leash and throw the ball, praise her like crazy every time she gets it, then use her leash to reel her back in. Contrary to popular belief dogs aren't born knowing how to play fetch. Take her swimming. They love to swim, but make sure to keep her ears clean, bc they are prone to ear infections. They are also prone to allergies esp. seasonal, so keep an eye out for any excessive scratching. They are such wonderful dogs. Good Luck.

Lucky you! You have a very loyal, loving companion FOREVER. That cottony fur will start to fall off and give way to the long beautiful golden hair/fur. My Aunt (thinking she knew everything), kept telling me that our puppy was losing his hair and we needed to give him old bacon grease in his food so that his hair would stop falling out because it was dry. What an idiot. But anywho, take the puppy to the vet and start working with him/her now. They are very intelligent and if you don't get started with them at an early age, they become hyper and you will think that they need ridalin. Good luck and watch out when you leave drinks or snacks around. My T.J. loved Beer and Ginger Snaps. We had to take him to the vet for doggy pepto bismal after he ate a WHOLE box of them. He never did that again. LOL

Congratulations!
You have a great companion for many, many years to come.
You couldn't have picked a better animal, in my humble opinion.
Check these sites out and visit your local petsmart or other animal store for books and advice.

i'm no expert, but i have my 11-yr-old chihuahua since she was 2 months old. so some tips. have the puppy vaccinated, your vet should schedule your next visits thereafter. give it a bath every other week (recommended). groom the puppy, brush the coat, trim the nails, clean the ears. oh! careful not to wet the insides of the ear when giving it a bath.

You will have to take the dog to the vet for worming, immunisation and registration anyway....and they give you advice, sometimes a manual too. So take the pup to a vet asap.
