ShaRay, where's your phone book? You definetly need to start booking. Caterers that are any good and reliable are hard to get last minute. So, if you have some specific in mine. I would pick up the phone today, and start the process. If you don't have one all ready picked out, it's time to start sampling and asking what they have available, and what they can do for you. Don't let them bully you, but also don't tick off the chef, some of the more in demand people don't have a problem dropping you from the books or even talking to you.
Have you secured the site where the cermoney and reception is going to be? If not, definetly do that before you call the caterer, because that is something that will effect prices. You and your fiancee plan a menu, but leave some room for change just in case the caterer comes up with something that will work better for your circumstances. Also, get a good solid contract, booking now, at prices in effect now, could save some big bucks this time next year. Old saying in the wedding business...it's never too early!
I worked with a wedding planner and a caterer and it's time now to settle this part, not necessarily the menu, but at this a commentment and desposit paid. So, ask around your area, and please ask for references if you don't know them personally. You don't your most speical day to be ruined with someone unreliable and awful food or service.
God bless us all....................

It depends on how early in the year you are getting married. As I am getting married in January of 2007, I am trying to take care of that now. But also depending on which caterer you would like to use, its always best to talk to them early as you may find that they may already be booked for the date that you request.

Do you have a location booked? If you don't, look now! If you do, make sure they don't have any rules about catering. Many reception centers require you to go through them to get the catering. It's convenient, but you won't be able to get the best price, and heaven help you if you want ethnic food. ("Our caterers will be happy to cook any recipe you give them!" said the sales rep. We took her out for Indian food, and she said, "Okay, just this once, we'll let you bring in outside catering.") Heh.

I can tell you the farther in advance you book one, the cheaper it might be. The longer you wait the more desperate the caterer knows you are and may jack up the price because they know you have no choice but to pay it. Also make sure you try and bargain with them in their price. The worst that can happen is they won't go down, then again you might surprise yourself and save lots of money...Good Luck to you!!

As soon as you know you're getting married. I booked my caterer almost 2 years in advance.

Congrats, give the caterers a call and tell them the date, maybe they could suggest a possible time, and answer some other questions you may have as well!

As soon as possible. If they are a popular caterer, they may already be booked for your day.

You can try to book anything for a wedding one year in advance. Some places will book them. Some have to wait until closer to 6months.
But I would try now. If you really like a place, I'm sure they will reserve your reservation.
Good luck!!
