My daughter (being raised Bhuddist by her Mother) asked me about 911 the other night because of her homework and wanted to know why everyone was fighting and why these men did this.

I was working at the time, and said "Religion, they are fighting over religion" Then my daighter said what is the difference? I was half way into some Jameson at the time, and wanted to give a sarcastic remark, but instead told her we would discuss as I was working. The real reason was because I can't honestly say the real difference 100%.

So I was thinking of inviting over a Rabbi, a Priest, a Pastor, and a Muslim Cleric. Do you think (AND I AM BEING VERY SINCERE!) they will be able to explain the differences or their points of view without argueing or getting into a confrontation in front of her?

Another concern is my Daughter is very blunt (most children are) and I am concerned if she said something to offend any of them, would they understand this is a child who means no disrespect?

Not all people are grown ups - much like yourself judging by your comments.

Yes - blunt. When a child see's a man with long hair, the child may say something like "He looks like a girl". It's not meant as rude, in a child's eye, she doesn't know any better.

Spoiled? I have two daughters - and I probably do spoil them a little. Of course, I don't give them everything either. It's a fine line.

I pressume you feel I am on a ruinous path with my daughter because she is being raised Bhuddist. Again, it's called respect - something adults have and it's very obvious your not an adult.

If I am immature for trying to let her meet different people and learn different cultures, and have her gain an understanding and respect for others then you need to put your swastika on.

Why couldn't you answer the question yourself? Just tell her, "honey, some (but not all) Muslims hate America and Americans because they believe it to be an evil country. These people believe their religion gives them the right to kill others whom they decide are evil, or who do not believe as they do."

How hard is that? That's what I told my kids the day 9/11 happened.

Peace.

The 9/11 attacks used religion for political ends. Or maybe it would be even more correct to say that the U.S. government used the alleged religous links of the 9/11 attacks for THEIR political ends.

Learning about other cultures and ways of thinking is always good -- the more information and understanding one has, the better one is equiped to make informed opinions and good decisions. Instead of inviting clergy for a visit, why not take her to witness different religous services for herself? If you're not sure, call up the office to ask for times and if it would be ok. If they're not keen on it, ask if there's someone who could tell her about the religion and answer her questions. I'm sure it'll be an experience she'll never forget.

What does 911 have to do with anything other than islam? Even then, I'm sure many muslims denounce what those extremists did.

I would just tell your daughter that there are some crazy, islamic people who hate america and non-muslims and feel they must kill us.

on the side, why waste the time of preists, pastors, rabbis etc...? I'm sure they have more important things to do than to hold a private interfaith conference for your little girl.

I think if when you called the Rabbi, Priest, Pastor and Cleric to ask them to come over that you also told them who else would be there and give the details, as you did for us, and explain why you want there help and expertise instead of relying on your own knowledge (because it could be incomplete, etc). They would then have to decide if they could be in the same room with each other, answer her questions and not dissolve into contention amongst themselves or with her. If you give them some guidelines that you want them to follow and be honest and up front with them, then I think if they are true representatives of their chosen religions, they will not allow honest questions to turn into something negative and offensive.

I wouldn't say that 911 was the result of a conflict of religions. It was a conflict of a strict interpretation of Islam with capitalism and democracy.

Regarding the religious meeting, the peacefulness of it will probably depend on who you invite. If you invited Jerry Falwell, and al Sadr (a radical cleric from Iraq) then it would probably be very uncomfortable. If you invite moderates then I think everything would be ok.

You should probably answer this one on your own, depending on your daughters age level.

If she is very young (elementary school) , I can give a short list of reading from the bible that will explain what the fight is about now and was about then.

If she is high school, you can let her read for herself, the bible and the Quran and she will see the difference for herself.

Basically, Christians, Israelites (jews) and Muslims all believe in the God of Abraham.

Israelites and Christians believe that the promised land was given to Abraham and passed to Isaac and then to Jacob and so on down the biblical line of blessing.

Muslims/Islam believe that the promised land was given to Abraham and then passed to Ishmael and I am not aware of whom Ishmael would have blessed to continue this line as it is not written in the bible or the Quran.

All this fighting is about the promise of the Holy land and they fought over it then and they will continue to fight over this until the end times. There is nothing we can do to stop this, as the bible states that the descendants of Ishmael will be wild men with no land of their own , they will have their hand against men and men will have their hand against them.

As a Muslim I would say go for it, invite them all. We muslims believe there is no shame in asking (learning) about religion. I don't think they would argue, at least they could talk for their religion and their stand on various issues.

Mature, educated adults do not get into arguing in front of children. Or getting into confrontation. Just shows how little you know.

Blunt? I would probably say spoiled, obnoxious and rude. If she means no disrespect then why does she do it? No I doubt anyone would understand anything except that you are on a ruinous path with this child.

Maybe you are too immature to have one.

You didn't mention what your beliefs are?

Honestly, what it comes down too, it that there are radical extremists that want the world to become their religion. They have perverted their own religion and now what the world to follow. Truly it's that simple.

May you find the grace of the living God and His Son Jesus!
